Hi, DC2 due in a few weeks and struggling with Irish boys names. I'm Irish and DH English so struggle to find a strong recognisably Irish name that won't cause too much of a headache with spelling/pronounciation growing up in UK. Lorcan seems to tick the box but after running it past a couple of Irish family members they both seem to butcher the pronounciation IMO!
Would you pronounce Lorcan as:
- Laur-can ( almost Laur-cun) or
- Lar-kin (much shorter sound)
I really hate the pronunciation no. 2 (sounds so harsh) but even when prompted my DM can't seem to get her tongue around pronunciation no.1! (The difference is definitely just the accent as apparently I'm saying it with an English accent whereas to me they're shortening the vowel sounds too much.)
How would you pronounce it? WIBU to call DS Lorcan and tell my family in Ireland we pronounce it like no.1?? And hope/assume that growing up in England everyone else will pronounce it like no.1... Or am I just settling myself up for years of headache?!
