I can hardly believe that.

What is it? A trend? Some kind of allusion? A family name?

No that can't be right. It's awful with the surname and more importantly all that's going on in the news with Greville Janner at the moment makes it just a really unlikely choice surely? It's a very unusual name and that's the only famous Greville I think I've ever heard of so not a great association Confused

RepeatAdNauseum · 19/06/2015 12:51

It was a joke.

Timothy and Charles are still the two most likely names, but Benedict's agent said there won't be an official announcement yet. I think they are the names of their grandfathers, so that's quite a nice gesture.

Who is Greville Janner? I don't want to google something else unpleasant.

He is a Labour Peer (house of lords) and before that was an MP for years, a raft of child abuse allegations against him, it looks like he's not going to be prosecuted though as he has dementia.

Oh HIM Sad

So if someone told you that as a joke it's in extremely poor taste Confused

Flubbs · 19/06/2015 13:47

It was local radio Whirl - maybe it was subconscious? Or maybe they said Grenville and I misheard. It was silly o/c after all.

I know a Greville - he's an attractive, rather high-powered, admittedly grumpy Londoner in his late 40s. What's so weird about it as a name?

MuddyWellyNelly · 19/06/2015 15:32

Even though it looks like the name wasn't the real one after all, I wish even more now that I was a rich famous 'sleb. You can name your child anything. No worries about bullying in the playground or the High Court Judge test!

CakeRattleandRoll · 19/06/2015 15:47

I had a great uncle Greville, nn Grev. I wouldn't choose it myself but I don't see anything so wrong with it.

squoosh · 19/06/2015 16:07

Greville sounds like the name of a sinister butler.

Flubbs · 19/06/2015 18:15

I thought it sounded like a Just William character.

One of my closest friends is called Greville! Rhymes with devil. Grin

Must say, I never thought it was that weird.

LaVolcan · 20/06/2015 12:37

Or Greville Wynn - the business man who was a spy, and was swapped for some other Russian/East German spy.

GoblinLittleOwl · 20/06/2015 12:56

I love Q Cumberpatch. Still giggling.

SoupDragon · 20/06/2015 16:25

Well, if Greville is not true, there's still hope for little Quentin :)

cacl27 · 21/06/2015 19:49

Gosh, I hope it isn't Greville, I would think he would get teased to no end from school mates.
Sounds too much like " grovel". And throw in Cumberbatch, and they could really go to town!
