Friend planning to use the same name

Ds is due in 6 weeks time - we are keeping the gender secret until the birth. We have decided on a name, it's been decided upon but are obvs keeping that secret until after the birth too. A friend is 12 weeks pregnant so due months after us but has found out she is expecting a boy - we saw her yesterday and she has said that she will be calling him (unknowingly) the same name we've chosen! We kept schtum as do not want to give away name or gender but I'm nowconcerned that when we do announce she will feel we've copied her!

What would you do? Should we think again? I feel this is a little unfair as we're due first. Not really bothered if they use the same name but may cause some confusion.

No-one has ownership of a name but if it's someone you care about / will see all the time etc then it's only sensible to have the conversation.

I can't believe how many people on here don't think it's a problem to use the same name as a dear friend / sibling???

We are struggling so much to agree on names and have the tiniest shortlist ever and I know loads of pregnant people so it is my fear that someone will tell me they have chosen a name that is the one we want! I am due before anyone else I know but some people announce their names early such as my friend who has told us what her baby will be called just after she had her 20 week scan. Not one of my favourites luckily, phew

You need to tell her before she hears it from anyone else and stress that it was already decided before she told you or she will think you have stolen it, which could hurt.

Explain you have been agonising over what to do because of what she told you but you can't think of another one you like as much
