Eugene - love it or hate it?

I really love it and would have Gene for short. DP doesn't hate it but doesn't exactly love it either. Just wondered if it's a Marmite name.

It's definitely a marmite name. No question.

Gene I can see being kind of cool but Eugene is just geeksville. And not a cool geek, just an annoying one.

But a name can't make you a geek, you're either a geek or you're not! I have an 'old woman name' and most people expect me to be 70 odd if they see my name before they see me, but I'm still relatively young and they just chuckle.

Loads of middle-aged ones here in the west of Ireland. Here and in the U.S. The stress is on the second syllable - better to my ear than the equal stress in the UK
