It's a moot point as I'm not PG and have to plan it carefully due to stupid health stuff I've posted about in another thread, but what do people think of the name Manon?

DP loves this name as do I, but I see issues with it being a bit too unusual - plus 'Manny' springs to mind as a nick name, which is horrible.

I never knew this was a Welsh name.

I just think of it as French/from the ballet.

It's very pretty.

Welsh family. It's my absolute favourite girls name.

Love it, know a couple of Manons, never heard any of their names being shortened.

jorahmormont · 11/06/2015 22:45

One of the loveliest people I've ever met is a Manon (VERY Welsh). She's never had it shortened.

I know it as a French name rather than Welsh. I think it is lovely. I was a bit put off by some lads I know shouting it as a football instruction constantly when playing ("man on" as in get a man on the ball).

PallasCat · 12/06/2015 00:20

Love it. Could shorten to Mimi?

harryhausen · 12/06/2015 07:34

Love it.

I'm in my 40's and from Wales. I heard a few growing up but not many. These days I know one Manon of my age - great person, beautiful, no-one shortens her name.

I think it's nice if you're Welsh or French. Makes me think too much of Manon Lescaut so I personally couldn't use it but that's not going to be a widespread problem - everyone else bar one on this thread has thought Manon des Sources.
