Oscar..

Oscar was always my top boys name, from 20+ years ago. By the time I came to have DS 2 yrs ago, it was so popular I decided against it. In some ways I regretted it as I still love the name but every time we meet another one I feel glad I didn't, they do seem to be everywhere.

Definitely cat rather than dog.

They are nice names, but there are just soooo many of them!

What about Otto or Otis as alternatives?

Popular for both. I know 5 oscars under 2, and 3 dogs called oscar!

Ridiculously popular, but I still think of it as a dogs name.

Maybe you should consider Rover or Fido for a boy, since it seems that no-one's using dog names for dogs any more.
