I know a few Ezras but they are all girls, must be a name for both.

Zebedee is unusual the origins are biblical. On the other hand, it is also the name of a character in the Magic Roundabout. Yes most names have a character connection BUT in my opinion you hear Zebedee and you think ridiculous Magic Roundabout as opposed to bible?! The other problem with many unusual names is that they look alarmingly similar to random words generated by auto spelling/ predictive text functions, or they look made up or like the parents have changed a spelling to make a name quirkier. It might be worth having a shortlist and when baby arrives see which suits then. I doubt you'd settle on a baby Keith, Brian or Geoff even though they are quite unusual nowadays Wink

Most names seem to be in the bible. Would still be an interesting choice though.

JemFinch · 29/05/2015 22:33

Kevin. I can't imagine anyone calling their child that now.

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 30/05/2015 09:09

I have a Caspar and an Eirik, haven't met any others.

MrsSchadenfreude · 30/05/2015 11:19

I know a Django - is that out there enough for you? (He calls himself Dan...)

florascotia · 30/05/2015 11:45

Mrs S - your comment should be flying from a little 'reminder' flag at the beginning of the baby names thread. Of course people want a name to reflect the wonderful specialness of a new baby, but enough is enough, at times...

mrspremise · 13/06/2015 17:07

Knew brothers Phineas and Kingsley when I was at school, plus a guy called Dax when I was at uni. Great names!

I have a fetish for baby names. Especially unusual ones. I hope these aren't too off the wall for you.

FATEdestiny · 14/06/2015 00:51

There's a child on one of the Disney Channel shows called Farkle. Not sure of the spelling, it is pronounced as a cross between fart and sparkle. Think of it as a sparkly fart Hmm

sweetpeame · 14/06/2015 05:50

OP - I'm pretty sure Roan is not an Irish name... I have never seen or heard it in Ireland and certainly never with that spelling. It appears to be incredibly popular on mumsnet spelt Rowan although I've yet to meet one on real life. If you're actually interested in Irish names beware of a lot of the websites listing so called Irish names, they aren't Irish, just someone's idea of what might be Irish or "Celtic".

Irish names (although not unusual) you might want to consider:
Darragh
Oisín
Odhran
Cathal
Cian
Cillian
Fionn
Eoin
Cormac

Bellejournee · 14/06/2015 07:01

Fynn
Otto
Barnaby
Ned

Bodicea · 14/06/2015 10:14

I think Mark needs to make a comeback. It's a lovely name. Strange it isn't in the top 100 anymore. Would be unusual amongst his peers. Nb I am biased as is is my husbands name so can't have it myself.

funnyface31 · 14/06/2015 16:07

Roan is just fab (but then I am bias) I like that it is different and not a name that will 'standout' when he is older, like novelty names or odd spellings.

Ezra and Arlo are two of my favourite boys names -I think they go so well together ! Roan is nice too. If you like Roan, maybe Ruan, Rowan, Rohan, Ruben, Rufin, Rudi ? But I'd go for Ezra if you can Smile

cheymommyaz · 25/06/2015 19:57

unusual but not of wall huh dont think its doable
