We still have a little while until we meet our boy but we are pretty much down to these two names. I know we might just make up our minds when we see him but just wanted a quick show of hands on these two namesSmile thanks!

Malachai sounds v Irish to me (Frank McCourt brother in Angela's Ashes!) But ending pronounced "kee" rather thank "Kai".

I prefer Malachi but nn Kai is horrible. I do not like Reuben

BlueBananas · 27/05/2015 23:07

Snowflake I'm in Manchester
Tbf most of the Malachi's in know are older kids (9/10ish) although I know of a couple of toddlers too, but I think it saw it's peak after 'Save The Last Dance' came out - Malachi (pronounced Kai) is the "baddy" in that

I have a Malachi. Different spelling though. Had nothing but positive comments about the name. Don't particually like any shortenings of the name though, Mal, mally, Kai. So far (12 years) this has never been a problem for him. We don't shorten it so shortened versions have never 'caught on' for him.

LucyBabs · 27/05/2015 23:19

Sorry but Malachi sounds like a noise you make in your throat. Originally I thought you were pronouncing it Malachy. Kai is awful too sorry Blush

bluebananas I'm in Manchester too & agree, it's a bit of a scally name here. I know several.

EachandEveryone · 28/05/2015 12:32

I don't like Malachi never have it reminds me of some of the rougher families I've had to work with. It's dead popular in certain circles. Ruebs is lovely. Mal is not.

Raines100 · 28/05/2015 12:37

I like both names and have never met either here in SE. Presumed Malachi was Malachy as well, as the Kai ending sounds Islamic and the Kee is RC/Irish as far as I know (though I stand to be corrected).

MadameMayberry · 28/05/2015 19:00

I work with a Malachy (pronounced with lee at the end) and I must say no one seems to get how to pronounce or spell it. Worth bearing in mind...

Lilydreams · 29/05/2015 07:20

Reuben definitely. Malachi is defo a 'chav' name near me and I have come across more than a fair share of them and 'Kai' working with criminals.
