Louis, Louie, luis or luiz?

I was set on Henry but it is SO popular I've gone right off it :(
So finally DP and I settled on Louis but can't agree on spelling, I think it should be Louis but ALWAYS read 'Lewis' when I see Louis.

So I'd like a vote please MN, if you were to use Louis, how would you spell it?

Unless you are Spanish pick Louis, not Luis. The proper pronunciation for Louis is Lou-ee but lots of Americans do seem to pronounce it in phonetic English and say Lou-iss. If you want it to sound like Lou-iss you should just pick Lewis in my opinion!

Picking some odd spelling Like Louie or Lewie will just cause problems for the child, most people do know that Louis is pronounced Lou-ee.

Louis. You will adjust very quickly and fewer people will have trouble with it then you think.

i've never met a little Henry!

Louis is lovely.
Lewis is also nice

Agree that it is a bad idea changing the spelling of a name, I would use Louis, people will manage to pronounce it properly, at the end of the day, most people will first now of the name of your child when you said it, you wouldn't be writting it for them.

Just go for leo. Its much more straight forward. Or should that be strait forward. Wink

Louis

Louis. It's the correct spelling and tbh I would hope that 99% of the population would know it's pronounced Loo-ey.

Louie just looks made up, and Luis only suitable if you're Spanish imo

I like Lewis (pronounced as spelled). Louis sounds a bit wet.

That's interesting higgidy, there are 3 Henry's in my class of yr 5s and apparently its soared in popularity, there's one in DDS nursery and were 2 in her last one. There's a good chance he may still be a Henry.... Or indeed a girl!

No, I don't like Lewis so it would definitely be pronounced loueee. I think my heart knows it's have to be Louis and we'd just have to put up with the confusion!
