Weve decided on Joseph for a boy and Matilda for a girl. Im aware Joseph is popular but I dont know any.
Our daughters are Isabelle and Eliza.
Eliza was chose by my nan who was dying and it has suddenly become so popular!
Is Matilda becoming popular too? X

I know lots of children under 7. No Matildas. The only Matilda is kbow is 10.

Wafflenose · 22/05/2015 12:10

I know 3 Josephs, aged 18, 9 and 6. Agree it's timeless.

I know one Matilda, aged 8 and usually called Tilly.

BeautifulStars93 · 22/05/2015 12:10

Im happy for him to go by Joe when he was older but I personally will always call him Joseph or Joey.

Matilda would go by Tilds x

I know one Matilda whose 6 months

TheFairyCaravan · 22/05/2015 12:14

There were quite a few Josephs at school with DS1(20). It was one of our choices at the time. I think it's a classic, timeless name.

VenusVanDamme · 22/05/2015 12:16

2 Josephs - one is 4 and the other 30. Both known as Joseph or Joe.

Only know 1 Matilda who is in her 80s and known as Mattie.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 22/05/2015 12:16

Love Joseph and Matilda, love Joe and Tilly, or even Tilda, but I really don't like either Joey or Tilds. You haven't mis-spelled Tilda have you?

Every Joseph I know is known as Joe. I really wouldn't use Joseph if you don't like Joe.

FatWalda · 22/05/2015 12:32

'Tilds' is hideous. Sad But I loathe Tilly as well. It is a shame, because Matilda is a beautiful name but the shortenings are almost inevitable.

wesH · 22/05/2015 12:53

I know a bunch of matildas, a lot of new parents at work have children called this. Joseph is less popular these days

BreeVDKamp · 22/05/2015 12:59

The Matilda I know is known as Tilda, in fact it's weird to think that her name is actually Matilda, she is SUCH a Tilda. Mid-twenties and from a Swedish family, maybe Tilda is normal Swedish shortening? I don't know.

Like I can't imagine Tilda Swinton being a Matilda!! (Is she??) Weird.

Sophronia · 22/05/2015 13:02

Don't like Tilds. Tilda is nice though.

Matilda is quite popular but it's a great name.

tumbletumble · 22/05/2015 13:05

I know three Josephs (age 9, 7 and 6). I don't know any Matildas, but I do know one Tilly.

If she is called Tilly for short, do bear in mind the enormous numbers of Millies and Ellies who she will sound similar to!

InfiniteJest · 22/05/2015 13:40

I don't know any Josephs, but do know two Matildas, both around 5 years old.

BeautifulStars93 · 22/05/2015 18:06

Tilda is a make of rice lol.
I wouldnt say it's hideous.

I don't know many young Joseph's. One I can think of. I know loads of Matilda's, usually called Tilly.

One of each, 8&9 yo Smile

MerryMarigold · 22/05/2015 18:12

I know a Joseph aged 8 and one aged 5. I think it's a lovely classic name. Matilda is more common. , 2 Tilly's in dd infant school. Personally think it's more faddy than Joseph.

BeautifulStars93 · 22/05/2015 18:12

They will be Joseoh or Matilda as I usually use the full names but if I did shorten them likely be Joey/Tilly/Tills

PunkAssMoFo · 22/05/2015 19:39

Most children I know are under 5.
I know 1 Joseph's.
I've lost count of the many Matildas. It's certainly very popular ATM.

ClementineAndCordelia · 28/05/2015 23:25

I know 2 Joseph's under 4 but both go by 'Joe '. Joseph in full is a great , strong name which seems to have continued in popularity ( a bit like Oliver ) . If my brother wasn't called it I would have considered it for DC2 ( brother is shortened to Joss) . I know 2 Matilda's who are 6 ( one shortened to Mattie and the other is Tilda) . Both are lovely and go well with your other names .
