Barnaby, Otis or Hugh?

Dilly77 · 21/05/2015 19:08

Surname is REALLY common, what name do you prefer and can I get away with these shortened versions.

Barnaby (Ned) can I really stretch it that far.

Otis Love Oz as a nn (can't have Oscar)

Hugh nn Huey

Thoughts please x

Barnaby is a brilliant name, but I don't understand the Ned thing at all.

Hate Otis, sorry.

Hugh not doing much at all for me, sorry.

PunkAssMoFo · 21/05/2015 19:14

Barnaby- but not Ned, or Hugh.
Otis seems like an animals name to me.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 21/05/2015 19:15

Barnaby fine, but Ned? No, that needs Edmund/Edward.

Otis looks odd written but is great when spoken (I've just discovered Grin)

Hugh....not keen

Otto?

adarkwhisperinthewoodwasheard · 21/05/2015 19:16

Really don't agree with pps Barnaby. Too much like a cartoon bear. Either of the others is pretty cool though

queentroutoftrouts · 21/05/2015 19:17

Otis is my fave, don't like the nickname though. I think Otis is short enough not to shorten it.

Dilly77 · 21/05/2015 19:17

Thats what my DH said too...for some reason not keen on barney so was thinking of how it could be shortenedGrin

Sophronia · 21/05/2015 20:57

I like Otis and Hugh, not keen on Barnaby.

PenguinsAreAce · 21/05/2015 21:01

Barnaby bear
Otis elevator

Hugh is ok. Huey is not!

PenguinsAreAce · 21/05/2015 21:02

Otis aardvark

Sausages123 · 21/05/2015 21:05

Bloody love Otis except my H said I couldn't have it as it made it sound as though my eldest had just got a new pet

Nervo · 21/05/2015 21:07

Otis is a great name and if your surname is what I'm thinking then it goes great with it.

Hugh, I like.

Barnaby I don't. Seems too .... I don't know but I'm not keen.

dreamingofsun · 21/05/2015 21:33

like hugh, but not huey - isn't that being sick

FatWalda · 22/05/2015 01:56

Hugh I like.
Barnaby is twee.
Otis sounds like an ear infection.

Muddymits · 22/05/2015 01:58

I love barnaby though hugh is good too, Otis not so much

TandemFlux · 22/05/2015 02:38

Adore Barnaby with ned

aoife24 · 22/05/2015 02:40

Hugh is my favourite.

Allalonenow · 22/05/2015 05:00

Hugh is fab.
Barnaby OK, though don't think Ned would work as a nn.
Otis, not keen at all.

Dilly77 · 22/05/2015 06:49

Thanks everyone, looks like no clear runner though... We already have a Jasper which I LOVE, just can't seem to find that same feeling with any boys names...lets hope it's a girl. Will know in 6 weeks ;)

I like Otis but possibly a bit out there. Really like the Huw spelling rather than Hugh. Hugo is nice too.
Barnaby is ok.

CakeRattleandRoll · 22/05/2015 07:07

Like Otis best.

swimmerforlife · 22/05/2015 07:09

Not keen on any but Otis at a push.

SuburbanRhonda · 22/05/2015 07:17

I think he'd have to be very hip to carry off Otis (can't believe no-one's mentioned Otis Redding!).
