Just pondering baby names (not sure on the sex yet) and we both love the name Annie but would want to give a full name rather than just Annie eg annabelle. But we both hate annabelle! What other names are there you can shorten to Annie?

Thanks for the ideas. There's none that stand out really, I can't even put my finger on why. Maybe we'll have to give up on the idea :/

What about just Anne/Ann?

That's the traditional name with the diminutive Annie.

Sylviecat · 16/05/2015 17:19

Sorry not helpful but I honestly think annie is a beautiful name in its own right. My sister is annie and never gets asked what it's short for.

Simply, Anne. An underused classic.

Chickenandpenguin · 17/05/2015 16:50

Thanks all. I think if we have a girl we'll just use Annie. I think any of the others would encourage other n names and I'm not keen on Anne.

My favourite Auntie was an Annie her full name was "Alethea". It means "truth"

wildpoppy · 18/05/2015 21:29

We are having the exact same conversations at the moment. Can't decide between Annie, or Marianne, Anna or Annabel to be known as Annie.

prepperpig · 18/05/2015 21:32

Surely Anneliese is "anna lease" carbolic? Not ann lee ez? I know two both anna lease

BikeRunSki · 18/05/2015 21:35

My sister had a dolly called Lasagna as a child, that could be abbreviated to Annie.

Corneliusmurphy · 18/05/2015 21:40

I know an arianne who goes by Annie

Polarbearmint · 18/05/2015 21:46

Alannah? Anna? Annalisa?

Annie is fine on its own though.

Anne is hideous, unimaginative and old-fashioned - please don't saddle a child with Anne with there are so many nice names out there. (It's my name, and I hate it.)
