Boys names Abe, Albie, Wilf or Stan?

Really struggling with a decision and currently 6 days overdue. We have 3 girls already and don't know if this one is a boy or girl.

I like old names. And Abe was always our chosen boys name, we love it, don't know any others and works well with our surname. BUT we called Dd3 Mabel.

So does Mabel and Abe (Mabe and Abe) sound totally stupid? We normally call her Mabel or Mabs but occasionally call her Mabes.

Other choices all have something that puts us off.

Stanley/Stan. We love this but I already know at least 6 Stanleys.

Albie - not so keen on the sound ofAlbert so would go with Albie but a friend (not close) called her son Albie 6 months ago.

Wif - not so keen on Wilfred but like Wilf. DH isn't sure.

We've been through nearly every other name under the sun and discounted it so don't need any more options! Just don't know if Abe is ok with Mabel?! Any help would be very much appreciated!

Abe is much nicer than Stan, Albie or Wilf. But Abe and Mabel in the same house could get confusing. Is Mabel called Mabe very often? If yes, then Abe is out. If no, then Abe might be a goer.

Mabe and Abe - sorry no.

Love Stanley...

sweetpeame · 13/05/2015 14:21

Mabel and Abe is a bit of a mouthful in itself, nevermind Mabe and Abe. I like Albie best of your list.

IvoryMadonna · 13/05/2015 14:34

Albie could be short for Alban as well as Albert.

What would Abe be short for? Abel? Abraham?

EeekNumber4 · 13/05/2015 21:27

Thanks for your replies.
Abe would just be Abe, not short for anything. Can't use Alban as have a very good friend called Alban and it would be too weird!

So if Abe is out Albie, Stan or Wilf??? :)

Can't help here as I think they are all fab! I have a DS called Stan and he is a chubby cheeked cherubic rascal...if that helps at all!

Whatabout · 13/05/2015 22:24

I have a bias for this, go for Wilf, you'll never regret it. Finding a boys name for DS2 is proving harder but Gus (Angus) is winning.

bobajob · 13/05/2015 22:26

How about Amos?

Variousrandomthings · 13/05/2015 22:27

Call him Wilf and not Wilfred

Whatabout · 13/05/2015 22:29

Mine is a Wilfred and we call him Wilf, he chooses Wilfred. It's a great name as he can call himself one of many names, but Wilf is my choice.

bobajob · 13/05/2015 22:30

Or Wilbur?

2boys2girls · 13/05/2015 22:37

They are all rather popular now infact I'd say wilfred then Albert are more popular than Stanley, saying that I love Wilfred,
Sid
Artie (Arthur)
Cas (Cassius)
Seth

Megs87 · 15/05/2015 12:24

I love Albie :) like Stan and Wilf but they are becoming more common now. Artie is lovely too x

megarobotdiscoparty · 16/05/2015 20:48

I love all these names! DH and I really struggled with boys names but these were all high up on our list.

Fwiw I think Abe and Mabe is cute...and if it got confusing I'm pretty sure you'd default to Mabs/Mabel more often anyway.

mamaslatts · 17/05/2015 16:34

With 4 kids you are surely more likely to be yelling 'KIDS!!!' rather than individual names and if looking for specific child you could go for Mabel rather than 'Mabes' - don't think Mabel is similar enough to rule out Abe if you have set your heart on it. I'm still deciding on DS3 name and find its easy to discount pretty much every name if you think hard enough.
