Hi, new here to mumsnet with my 16 day old baby girl who I've yet to announce her name other than to close family. We're registering her today at 3.30pm and I've changed the third name last night but my mum, sister and 2 friends think I should stick with my original choice. So I'm hoping you guys can spare an opinion?

So we're going for either: Etta Lucinda Rose, or Etta Lucinda Kate. The later is my last minute change as it's one of my sister's names shortened from Katherine. I've always called her Kate, though she refers to herself as Kat. I was originally going for my sister's middle name, which was also my grandmother's name of Eliza but I need now a 1 syllable name to flow right with the definite choice of Etta Lucinda.

Her surname will be my partners, which rhymes with Gordon and is 2 syllable's.

So over to you.

I love using family names, so Kate would be my choice. It's also a lovely name.

As long as it didn't upset my other sister!

:)

Congratulations.

I like Kate the best.. its more uncommon at the moment too

ButtonMoon88 · 09/05/2015 13:15

If I didn't know the sentiment behind your name choices I would say Etta Lucinda Rose which I think is absolutely beautiful.

However, my dd is named after a family member (we spell her name slightly differently) and it makes me love her name so much more. So I would say go for Etta Lucinda Kate.

Sophronia · 09/05/2015 13:22

Etta Lucinda Kate, because of the meaning behind it.

Penguinotterfoxbadger · 09/05/2015 13:23

They both sound great and flow well. I slightly prefer Rose but think you should go for whichever means more to you (as mentioned above, just take care you don't upset your other sister!)

MilkyVampire · 09/05/2015 13:24

Ooo super quick responses guys, thank you! Keep them coming and I'll discuss with other half and mum and sis.

Etta is lovely Btw. And congratulations!

LastNightADJSavedMyLife · 09/05/2015 13:26

I don;t like the abbreviation of Katherine as a middle name sorry. I do think that Etta Lucinda Katherine sounds much better though, and like Rose

Aranan · 09/05/2015 13:29

Every other girl born for the last 10 years has the middle name Rose or May/Mae.. I'd go for Kate.

MilkyVampire · 09/05/2015 14:36

Oh Christ, I spoke to my mum and she is so half hearted about my name choices. Originally we were going to name her Lunetta (little moon in Italian) but our parents said she'd get 'Loony' at school, which introduced doubt, as well as the midwife's not getting it. We then thought Lucetta Eliza Rose but again, it seems too foreign for our family's to grasp (Italy is a special place to us), but now my mum has said she liked Lucetta Eliza Rose the best! One hour to go anyway and my other half is not letting Lucinda go so in going to have my mum always preferring another name. I wish I want so indecisive!

Also an ex colleague has just named her newborn yesterday 'Rose' as a middle name, so I'm aware of it's popularity.

It's not up to your mum. Just saying Wink

LomaLinda77 · 09/05/2015 14:42

Easy for me to say now, but we (and DB, DSis etc) have always presented our name choices as a fait accompli. Parents have professed to love them. They have no say in the matter anyway so they might as well!

Monica101 · 09/05/2015 14:43

Yes avoid the Rose/May/Grace middle name thing unless those names are really special to you. It's too predictable. Kate sounds better too and has the family connection so even nicer.

MilkyVampire · 09/05/2015 15:00

Oh, also, with the 3 names with Kate having the initials ELK as in the animal, do you think that that is OK? I think an Elk is graceful and strong so would be OK but just in case I've missed a sinister connection?

Penguinotterfoxbadger · 09/05/2015 16:23

Those initials are fine imo. And remember - your mum had her chance in naming you - this is your baby and your choice of name!

goshdarnit · 09/05/2015 17:03

I love your choices with Kate, and don't worry about the initials.
I did read this as I thought you were naming your baby 'Flow.' maybe an unhinged version of Florence and was coming in to screech 'Noooo!!!' at you, but I feel absolutely no reason to do that now Grin

MilkyVampire · 09/05/2015 17:07

OK so the deed is done and we've named our little girl: Etta Lucinda Kate! The little miss was very good during the time with the registrar but straight after, had a mishap in a clothing crisis way, with yellow poo all over her lower half from a badly installed nappy and I had to spend 20mins sorting her out, with no travel changing mat and the council office closing up... all with a very distressed baby! Thankfully the old muslin cloth saved the day to wrap her in, as we'd also forgotten a change of clothes, in the stress of getting there on time.

Thanks for you're opinions guys! :)
