I have a 2 year old dd Georgia who is nicknamed Georgie sometimes- we are expecting dc2 and both liked Charles for a boy (we wouldn't call him Charlie).
Would you think of the royal babies? Obviously it would be the feminine/masculine version but in a sibling set would it look odd?
And do you know any charles they are called charles and not charlie?
Thanks :)

Yes, my OH is a charles and definately not a charlie!
Think they are bith nice names

vintagechinalady · 05/05/2015 18:36

The three Charles I know are all called just that.

I wouldn't think of royal children at all upon hearing your choice of names. The only problems you might have imho are having to correct people who are rude enough to abbreviate your Charles' name (it will happen!) and having your son do it himself when he gets older. As the parent of a child with a name which can be shortened I can suggest a stony stare and firm correction for the first but am still trying to work out how to deal with the second!

I honestly don't think I'd think of it. Didn't even make the George connection immediately from your post.

I do know a couple of Charles, just Charles. You can't control how nicknames will develop later, but it won't matter as much later!

They are such normal, popular names, I'd hardly have made the connection.

William and Harry were so unusual in 1982 and 1984, it's just the same link.

you can't control the nicknames they are given by their peers - or the ones they choose for themselves - so get ready for being mother to a "Chuck" Grin Grin

See I wouldn't mind 'Chuck'! :) just not keen on Charlie.
Ok feeling reassured about the Georgia/Charles combo :)

There's Chas as well. I've known a couple of those.

Wishful80smontage · 05/05/2015 19:25

Hmmmm Chas not so much!

I know four teenaged Charles' who are Chaz. And a Charlotte who is an ironic Chaz when she's had a few.

Penguinotterfoxbadger · 06/05/2015 00:33

I wouldn't think of the royal connection at all
