DD is called Alexandra and will start nursery soon. we don't like the nicknames Alex or Lexie. We always call her her full name but I know that she'll be known by a shortening which we should tell the nursery. How about:
Allie
Alexa
Lelie
Any ideas welkome!

My Alexandra (9) is usually known as Alex which you aren't keen on. Her friends call her Al. Other nn include Alibob and Alicat!! She has a friend called Alexia who is known as Lexi.
I think Alexandra is a beautiful name.

None of my business but why did you opt for Alexandra as a name of you don't like the nn's Alex or Lexi. You're daughter might do. It's her name not yours!

I have to admit, I thought the same as Ilive.

I would put money on this girl using Alex when she gets to secondary school!

I do agree with others that if you really dislike the potential nns it may be best not to use it because ultimately what she gets called at school really isn't in anyone's control. I was at school with a Victoria, sister Charlotte. Her mum HATED Vicky but naturally people in primary school started to call her it. Whenever anyone did she would respond with "my mum doesn't like that name."

I think the only way around it is if you start calling her the NN that you like now (Allie for example) so she recognises that as her name. Tell the teachers "her name is Alexandra or Allie for short"
