Not short for anything just Kitty.

What are your opinions, not sure if this name is a contender but it's one that is on our long list.

I really like it, it was on our shortlist for this bump... But i dont mind NN's as full names. Other similar would be
Kitty, bunny, minnie, dolly ... I love all of these

Wishful80smontage · 23/04/2015 09:46

On my list as a nn for Catherine but I think for a grown up its sounds too cutesy sorry

aoife24 · 23/04/2015 16:52

I think it's lovely. Why do people think you need the 'official' version if you are never going to use it?

Whatisaweekend · 23/04/2015 17:41

Love it!! And if its good enough for JA/Mrs Bennett then its good enough for me!!

Pikkewyn · 23/04/2015 17:43

I loved Kitty for DD2 but DH would only concede if I could come up with a 'proper' name that wasn't Katherine so we chose Katya with Kitty as a nn.

IvoryMadonna · 23/04/2015 17:59

aoife24 Because the child might prefer to use it! It's the child's name, not the parents'.

TurboTheChicken · 23/04/2015 18:09

I love it, it was a close thing whether our DD was Dorothy or Kitty. Dorothy won as it sounded better with our surname.

I don't think Kitty is too cutesy and is a perfectly good name for an adult.

timelyreminder · 23/04/2015 18:25

It would be fine as a nickname for Katherine, Katrina etc.

imip · 23/04/2015 18:30

Well, I may be a tad biased as it is 3yo dds name, but î love it! It's her name, no long a&e, no need. I hate the name Catherine, but I love Kitty.

My gradmother's name was Kitty, as is my Aunts. They were fiesty women, much like my own kitty Smile.

If you love it, go for it. Don't worry what others say....

Btw, no one makes the hello kitty reference, and I even usually forget about it!

Chchchchanging · 23/04/2015 20:28

Katherine is awful
Kitty is fabulous

Onesipmore · 23/04/2015 20:33

I have a fabulous Kitty. Not remotely cutesie. Feisty, sporty etc. hello Kitty has never been mentioned by any of her peer group. I chose the name from Anna Karenina

Rhubarbgarden · 23/04/2015 22:18

Love it.

I know three. Two little girls who suit it.
One woman whose name is Rachel but insists on being called Kitty. Right old hag.

Had same conversation about Betty... Nickname at birth or Elizabeth for adult choice.

I'm of the nick name persuasion.

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 23/04/2015 23:43

I love it. I also love Kit for a boy.

However, I do think it's one name I would have to have as a NN - with something more substantial as the "real name".

aoife24 · 25/04/2015 16:29

Oh Turbo,

chocolateyay · 25/04/2015 18:47

Dorothy - Dotty! I love that.

Nicknames do come about themselves so you may decide Catherine with kitty as a nn, and end up with a Cath, Cathy, Catty, Kitty Cat, Kit or Reena. Or Fred. You never know... My family name is nothing like my real name but was a mangled version from my sister who was 2 and a half when I was born (could've been worse I suppose).

crazycatlady82 · 25/04/2015 19:58

I love Kitty! However as I am cat obsessed and our surname starts with 'C' any suggestion of kitty was met with hysterical laughter Hmm

reuset · 25/04/2015 20:03

Not on its own. I prefer Katherine, nick name Kitty
