So we found out we're having a boy today and absolutely cannot agree on names! Also want a name that's unique yet strong and not too out there, also that lends itself to a successful career in the future (my mum always said she chose our names with future job applications in mind eyeroll)

Names DH likes but I don't:
Fabian
Courtney (for a boy!? Ugh)
Tyrell (just no)

Names I like but DH does not:
Theo
Blake
Reuben
Ezra
Eli/Elijah

Names we somewhat agree on but not sure:

Malachi (nn. Kai)
Jayden
Remy

What are your thoughts on the ones we both like/any suggestions of other names we might like?Smile

Presumably you are about 20 weeks?
What's the hurry to get the name nailed down?
I thought this was going to be a thread about a couple who had been debating for 9 months +

Fabian and Blake are great names.

Sometimes I think we get into a headset of its got to be a name I instantly know is right. But I think it's more realistic to have a few options and let them grow on you.

'want a name that's unique yet strong and not too out there, also that lends itself to a successful career in the future '

Does your DH know this? I think he may have misunderstood if he's suggesting Courtney and Tyrell?!

I like Malachi.

Jayden is nice, but it's perceived as a chavvy or a 'naughty boy' name. It's also not unique/unusual. There are loads.

I don't like Remy. It always sounds like a cleaning product to me.

Your list is much better! You need to start persuading your DH to come round to your way of thinking Grin. I love Blake, Reuben and Ezra.

Other names;

Caleb
Arlo
Jago
Daniel
Micah
Elias
Elliot

True Guy, I think I just want to put an end to everyone constantly asking and suggesting ridiculous names - Pygmalion and Artemis being choice examplesHmm and we have actually been debating since we found out at 5 weeks (silly I know but we're over excited first timers) and I don't want another 4 months of this, I do often tend to over think things though

I'm also just interested to hear if there's any similar names that we might be missingSmile

Lol thank you for your feedback outraged, having kids really does bring out different sides of you - I think I am realising my DH is a chav deep down Wink

Your lists include quite a few different types of names IYKWIM eg. Jayden and Tyrell are very, very different to Reuben and Elijah. I have a few of your names on my list for DS1 (Reuben, Theo or Theodore nn Ted), other names we're considering are Miles, Hugo, Conrad and Fintan (random one, I'm Irish). I also like Blake and Fabian from your list (though not sure how you're pronouncing Fabian, I'd say Fab-ian rather than Fay-bian but that would be my German DH's influence). Boys names are very difficult...

MyNameIsSuz · 12/04/2015 08:07

I had quite a lot of your names on my list too and we had the same problem agreeing. We had to compromise in the end and went with Franklin, which was on neither list.

I also liked Tobias, Jonas, Elias, Hugo, Dexter and Austin.

Amyyy27 · 12/04/2015 08:39

I absolutely LOVE Theodore! But we can't use it due to 'Th' surname :(

My partner loves Odin.. the chief of all (Norse?) gods so i am told.. would that be an option? I don't dislike it i just don't love it like he does!

At the moment my top 5 boys names are

Atticus
Sheldon
Rafferty
Baxter
Spencer

any of them any good?

GlitzAndGigglesx · 12/04/2015 12:24

I love Malachi and Elijah. Considered them for boys myself. Theo and Jayden are nice but a bit too popular. Fabian is a nice name and not heard very often. I love Elias too as others have said

Christelle2207 · 12/04/2015 12:31

I love Theo and Fabian. Think you need to relax a bit though, we are 36 weeks and still no closer to agreeing, you seem way ahead to me. DC1 didn't have a name till a week old, just remember you have 42 days to register name so there is plenty of time to come up with a shortlist then see what he looks like!

zipzap · 12/04/2015 12:41

I reckon you should also figure out the most ridiculous name you can (Marmaduke Pygmalion for example) and then tell people that to watch their reaction. Will give you more time and less pressure on the real name!

Snowflake15 · 13/04/2015 13:13

Thanks for the ideas all! itfc I like Rafferty or Rafael but I'm sure DH wont... I think we're leaning towards Malachi at the moment, but you're right Christelle we do have ages still, I'm going to try and relax a bit!

glitz, suz, river I love Eli/Elijah but this is another DH has vetoed

zipzap love that idea

Thanks all!
