Romil/lly - with one or two 'l's?

Having taken till my brand new dd was a week old to name her Romily Isabel Clementine, we thought we'd agreed just one 'l' in Romily so it looked less like Milly and just prettier, however, now I've looked it up and it can be spelled both ways but I think it looks like we can't spell! What do you think?

Romilly is the more usual spelling and I think it looks better.

Sophronia · 08/04/2015 18:22

Congrats on your daiughter btw Smile

Stillwishihadabs · 08/04/2015 18:25

Lovely name, the one I know has one l.

seaoflove · 08/04/2015 18:28

I think Romilly is the more common spelling, and it looks better as well.

IsadoraQuagmire · 08/04/2015 19:30

I've only ever seen it spelled with 2 Ls. I think it looks better that way too,

HettyB · 08/04/2015 19:32

Beautiful name! I'd go for 2 Ls

TempsPerdu · 08/04/2015 19:32

I prefer it with two lls, and the Romilly I know who was born recently has her name spelt this way. Beautiful name, by the way!

Two L's. And it's gorgeous - would have been dc3's name if we had a dd.

Lunastarfish · 08/04/2015 20:18

I spell it as Romilly. I think, for a less common name, that is how most people will spell it. She'll have a life of saying 'Romily with one L'. As someone who has a common sounding surname but with a slight spelling variation having to spell your name everytime you say it is tedious.

Btw, I adore Romilly and would like it for my DD but my DP is soooo fussy!

IvoryMadonna · 08/04/2015 20:49

Definitely 2 L's. With only one L, it looks like an adverb, she said romily. Grin

Bowlersarm · 08/04/2015 20:51

Romilly!

Beautiful, congratulations.

Bowlersarm · 08/04/2015 20:54

....and if people start calling her Milly (I don't think they will), then counteract with Romy or Rumor....fab names....

I don't think it'll be shortened, it's so easy to say in its entirety.

Eminybob · 08/04/2015 21:34

I much prefer it with one L. I don't know any and have only heard of the name recently but I really like it but actually don't like the LL spelling.

Slavetominidictator · 08/04/2015 22:55

Thanks so much - will go with twos Ls then. I don't want to give her a life time of spelling it, especially as it's unusual anyway.

Appreciate the responses.

Mines got 2 l's

Fifis25StottieCakes · 09/04/2015 02:25

We call hers Roms, started as a baby and just stuck, never had much of a problem with spelling other that one L or 2 or is it ie like Millie

TheAfterDark · 09/04/2015 02:37

I know girls who spell their names one of each and I think whichever you do will be fine! It's the same as Annabel and Annabelle!
If your instinct is Romily, go with it! I think it looks better written down as that too...but whichever you choose will soon be the 'right' way for you!

Fifis25StottieCakes · 09/04/2015 02:41

There's a Romilly website dedicated to people called Romilly/Romily. Have a look on there i forgot what its called now but should come up in google
