What does everyone think of Caroline as a name for a baby?

I'm thinking about Caroline Frances or Caroline Louisa.

Thanks!

They were all nick named 'Caz' when I was a girl. That put me off it, though in reality it's a fine name

zipzap · 01/04/2015 10:53

I was at school with lots of caroline's in the 80s so I reckon it just fell out of favour because it had been so popular.

If I was going to use it now I'd go for Carolina rather than Caroline with a nickname of Caro.

I think Carolina Frances is really nice - whereas Caroline Frances is maybe a bit of a sturdy name. Not explained that very well sorry!

Sophronia · 01/04/2015 11:07

I love it.

squoosh · 01/04/2015 11:14

Love Caroline and love Callie as a nickname.

fourteen · 01/04/2015 11:18

Love it, but couldn't have it for dd for a few reasons.

It's girly, sensible, horsey (a good thing), got lots of syllables (a good thing), shortens nicely and is no nonsense.

What's not to like?!

AndWhenYouGetThere · 01/04/2015 11:23

Would she be a Carol-in or Carol-eye-n?

zipzap · 01/04/2015 11:41

That last post has just reminded me that I was also at school with a Carolyn (spelt that way) and she used to get very fed up with people saying and/or spelling her name as Caroline!

tindel · 01/04/2015 11:43

I have to chip in here - it's my name and tbh, I hated it as a child. It conjures up a certain image of being posh, middle-aged and pony-riding. I was born in the 80s and while there weren't very many of us, there were always a couple in my school.

I got sick of it in my late teens and most people now call me a shortened version of it, which I much prefer. I am called my full name at work, because it makes me sound older than I am that and I'm mainly too lazy to complain

In terms of nns, Carrie is another possibility (although reminds me of the Stephen King novel!) and I knew someone who insisted on being called Callie, which I think is really lovely.

afghanda · 01/04/2015 11:51

It's not a name that I particularly like, but I think it sounds very fresh due to not being used much recently - I'd go for it!

TheCowThatLaughs · 01/04/2015 12:17

There's a character in The Box of Delights called Caroline Louisa, I like it Smile

SnotQueen · 01/04/2015 12:23

No

DramaAlpaca · 01/04/2015 14:48

Absolutely love it Smile

Like Caroline Louisa best, but Caroline Frances is nice too.

CliveCussler · 01/04/2015 14:57

All together now..

Sweeeet Caroline.....

ilovemargaretatwood8931 · 01/04/2015 14:57

I really like the name Caroline, and love Carrie. Caroline Louisa is nice, not so keen on Caroline Frances, BUT love Caroline Francesca- best of both worlds! (kind of, iyswim) Smile

Thanks everyone! I am actually American (a friend of mine frequents this board and told me to check it out) so a lot of these nicknames like Caz and Caro aren't really familiar to me (especially not Caz). I think I'd prefer to use the name in full but I do like Carrie and Callie. For the poster who asked, I'm pronouncing it Caro-LIEN not Caro-LYN. :)

Oh, also, Caroline Francesca is really pretty! I didn't even think of it.

Caroline, yes, lots of them in their late 30s and early forties but I like that it's not typical, like say Amelia or Sophia or Isabella. It's classic in the same way but less of the year.

I like it.

toobreathless · 01/04/2015 20:46

Love it :)

swancourt · 01/04/2015 21:35

Love it! Was only thinking the other day how weird it is that this isn't more popular. Beautiful name x

LorelaiVictoriaGilmore · 01/04/2015 21:42

I really like Caroline. My bf's Caroline with unusual (but I think lovely) nn Lila.

BunnyCake · 02/04/2015 10:21
