We still don't have a name, or even a shortlist. I want to cry I have cried

I'm 7 days overdue and am being induced on the 25th. We are having a girl, already have a DS. We had agreed on a name but I changed my mind, I was never as sure as DP was, but now he likes nothing. The name he wants is Erin.

I like Robyn, Megan, Daisy, Ava, Rhiannon, Niamh & others I have suggested I can't even remember! There is nothing I really love. We did 200 names on named together & got no matches. Help!

I was coming on to suggest Robyn and it's already on your shortlist. Beautiful. Go for it. Failing that, other short strong naturey names like Hazel, Willow, Seren, Tamsyn. Maybe you'll know when you see her. Nothing wrong with waiting till then,

originalusernamefail · 20/03/2015 23:07

I luffs Robyn. If DS had been DD he would have been Robyn (Bobby) , so use it in my stead. I also like Eleanor (Ellie / Nell) and Arwen (? Spelling?) for girls.

Thanks On the new baby. I am very Envy

Besta · 20/03/2015 23:08

Merryn. Sort of Erin, Robyn and Megan all mixed together?

yougotafastcar · 20/03/2015 23:22

originalusernamefail don't be Envy, she won't get out yet! I spend most days like Angry since my due date Grin

I do love Robyn, but DP refuses because of the nickname Bobby. Annoying, because I think its cute. Oh Seren I like too, DP doesn't. Not too keen on Merryn.

Most annoying thing is, although he is rejecting my names, he isn't suggesting any himself except bloody Erin. I have agreed to consider it when she is born, I'd just like to have a shortlist

I love Erin, but had 2 boys. How about Ellen or Elin which might be close enough for your DH?

Zahrah5 · 21/03/2015 00:38

Can you put erin as middle name?
Doesnt seem like he is being reasonable at all

Belazu84 · 21/03/2015 02:20

Seems like you might like 'n' endings, which I think are both strong and pretty.

Ellen
Kirsten
Marin
Seren
Lauren
Roisin
Caitlin
Rowan
Evelyn
Lillian

Just adding..

Saoirse Erin Lastname

Saoirse pronounced Ser-SHA. Its a lovely name and I'll definitely use it if I have another bubba.

Penguinotterfoxbadger · 21/03/2015 03:09

Just a thought, but maybe you could agree NOT to name her until x days after she's born.. Might make you feel a bit less panicky?

Another thought: although Bobby is a really cute nn for Robyn, it doesn't seem like a completely "natural" one to me, ie I don't think people would come up with it if their own accord if you and your dh didn't call her that, so I don't think he has anything to worry about on that front.

wigglylines · 21/03/2015 04:44

I always thought Bonnie was short for Barbara. Never heard of it as short for Robyn.

wigglylines · 21/03/2015 04:44

I bobbie not bonnie! Stupid phone!

BackCrackAndNappySack · 21/03/2015 04:49

If it's the nickname Bobby he doesn't like then just don't use it! Robyn is a lovely name exactly as it is, and not overly long so I don't see the need to shoehorn a slightly tenuous nickname into it. Just name her Robyn and call her Robyn.

Robyn is much prettier than Erin. Erin always sounds quite hard to me.

Bigbadgeorge · 21/03/2015 04:52

Isobel?

I wouldn't think of bobby as a nn for Robyn either.

AgentOfShield · 21/03/2015 07:42

How about Wren? Close to Erin but also a pretty bird themed name like Robyn Smile

zebrapig · 21/03/2015 07:53

Megan and Naimh were on our shortlist. We chose Megan and I love it and everyone is commenting on what a nice name it is.

I like the suggestion of Ellen too.

yougotafastcar · 21/03/2015 07:54

Elin is pretty, but I changed my mind from Erin because everyone says Erun instead. I guess I'd have the same problem.

Ellen, Caitlin, Seren are lovely. I don't really know why he is worrying about nicknames, DS has a name that doesn't have easy nicknames but he had loads that only we call him and none are related to his name!

Will run some of these past him, thanks all

Aah lovely name zebra. Megan is one of my favourites but DP is worried about the name Meg from the programme family guy. We are fairly young, but still!

I have a friend called robyn and shes never ever been called bobby - why would bobby be a nn for robyn?

Namechanged101 · 21/03/2015 08:33

Really like Wren!
I know a Robyn and a Robin (one 20's other older) neither as shortened to Bobby I wouldn't have seen that as a nn really.
What names does your oh like?

We reached a stalemate when I was expecting I really like vintage, traditional names and my OH rejected name after name so I has to get his favourites and then try and then meet in the middle you will get there! :)

Kim82 · 21/03/2015 09:47

I have a Megan and a Leah. We considered Erin for dd3 but went with Charlotte in the end. Other names on our shortlist were Emma, Anna, Isobel, Cara and Cora if they're any use to you.

Fwiw my Megan gets the nicknames Meggie and Meg but nobody ever makes any connection to family guy.

RL20 · 21/03/2015 18:01

Yougotafastcar, your other half sounds like mine! Doesn't like my suggestions but won't actually suggest anything himself. Like the others said, there's plenty of time yet. I was 'baby >surname

Fizzyplonk · 21/03/2015 18:59

Elise
Eloise
Tamsin
Piper
Lydia
Mabel

yougotafastcar · 21/03/2015 23:10

I guess Bobby comes from Roberta more.

DP likes Erin. That's it. Oh, he suggested Charlotte once, but as a joke as DS's name is a nickname of that Hmm he's very helpful obviously! I suggest names, he might say "mm that's ok/nice" but the next time you mention it he has forgotten he said that & doesn't like it anymore!

I don't think Meg would be connected with family guy, because her name would become her. When they hear Meg they would think of DD, not TV.

Cara & Cora are lovely, I do have irish links, but not overly keen on Caoimhe. Eva & Emilia are family names, but I do like both. Mollie & Skye I like, but DP doesn't like Mollie & Skye just doesn't feel right. Don't know why! Good luck to you too RL20

Tamsin I like but always always say Tasmin in my head & a close relative is Jasmine, so too close. Elise is pretty too.

You have shown me there are names I love, will have to work on DP. Maybe I'll use the "I just carried the baby for 42 weeks AND pushed her out, so the least you can do is call her Xxxx!" Line Wink
