Boys names - thoughts/suggestions please

Current list ... We don't know the sex.

Reuben
Theo
Milo
Rudy (not sure we're brave enough for this and our surname ends in a Y sound too)
Frank (probably Francis rather than Franklin)
Jude (DH thinks this is a girls' name)
Rowan (newcomer, just trying this out)

DD has a very uncommon but real name - number 1234 (or something) in the 2013 name list. I don't think we'll find anything as unusual for this baby and I think unusual is especially difficult with boy names.

If a girl, front runners are Alice, Jemima and Nancy.

Current boy front runners are Reuben and Theo(dore), but I'm struggling with their popularity. They make me feel warm inside though and like I want to cuddle them up.

Help!

I actually kinda like Milo :) Boy names I really like:
Torak
Bear
Felix
Tom/Tommy
Nigel
Jimmy
Hope you like em!

twirlypoo · 16/03/2015 21:19

Ooh I love bear - never thought I would say that!

My current faves are Otto and Barnaby. Not sure if they fit your tastes though Smile

Warm inside and wanting to cuddle them up sounds lovely. I think if the name makes you feel like that you should go for it. Who cares if it's popular? Go with a name that makes you feel like that.

I like Reuben a lot, fwiw.:)

verelab · 16/03/2015 21:33

Reuben and Theo are great names - yes, they are popular but not top 20 so it is likely there will be 2 in a class, but unlikely there will be 4

Rowan is a wonderful name and much less popular of that really is a problem with the previous two.

I like Milo and Alice.

I think Reuben is going to be quite common soon, it pops up on many baby name threads on here

Penguinotterfoxbadger · 16/03/2015 21:54

Theo is great and I also like Rowan

Alisvolatpropiis · 16/03/2015 21:59

I love Milo and Nancy is lovely. I like Rowan for a boy or a girl.

I really liked Jasper and Torin when I was considering boys names.

FriendlyLadybird · 16/03/2015 22:05

I've got a Reuben name chosen when it was pretty unusual we were mighty surprised when there was another one in his class at school (different spelling though). The name definitely makes me feel warm!

I like Rowan maybe would have chosen it if a family member didn't have a similar name but it strikes me as more delicate than the son I actually got.

sweetpeame · 16/03/2015 22:10

I like Theo and Reuben on your list (Theo/Ted is also on mine).

I'm getting bored of Milo already, there are Milo's springing up left, right and centre in London at the moment. I think it will date pretty quickly.

Not too crazy about your other suggestions. Rowan pops up on this forum a lot but I think it sounds quite feminine (which lots of people wouldn't mind I suppose).

On your girls list Alice is lovely.

Rivercam · 16/03/2015 22:17

Other unusual but not outrageous names ( which is how I describe your list)

Nathaniel
Robin
Tristan
Conrad
Lloyd
Tobias
Magnus

I like Theo the best from your name. Love your description of how they make you feel.

AnythingNotEverything · 16/03/2015 22:23

I like "unusual but not outrageous". I'll remember that.

I wonder if I answered my own question in my OP.

Lovely suggestions and thoughts. Thanks so much Grin

We also had a DD with a very unusual name (about 6 born a year for the past few years), and struggled to come up with 'unusual but not outrageous' boys' names. Both Jude and Rowan were on my shortlist too, but i love the reasons you gave for preferring Reuben and theo. (We ended with a girl for DC2)

AnythingNotEverything · 19/03/2015 13:24

Thanks Happy. I think Theodore James is our front runner.

Just a few more months until we get the make the final decision Grin

My ds is called Jude I absolutely love his name it's an unusual but not a made up name if you know what I mean. He's the only Jude in his school. I got Jude from Jude Law.

gincamelbak · 21/03/2015 04:16

I love Rowan.
what about Torin?
