See what u mean when I say the Mae out loud!! Think I've myself overthinking the whole thing. We thought of boys names very early on and are just finding girls so difficult. We do like the simple normal type names so if anyone has any other suggestions from what I have listed feel free to suggest!! We are in Ireland and tend to be drawn to the more Celtic/ Irish type ones.

What about Clio

A car some will say but a great name. If you are in Ireland definitely go for Maeve not Mae. Much classier.

Here are some celtic suggestions

Clodagh, Siún, Fraoch, Fiadh, Blaithin.

Other simple names (in English) Kate/Cait, Ellen, Emma, Laura, Rachel, Jeannie, Jane

I can't say I dislike Clio it's maybe just a bit out there for me!! I'm quite a plain person and like the simple girly names.

Love them all aside from Aofie. I hate names that are spelled completely different to their pronounciation. It's just a life time of explanation for the child

Allalonenow · 16/03/2015 00:24

Leah is lovely and is my favourite by a long way, I personally wouldn't use Aoife due to spelling/pronunciation, and I'm always surprised that it is so popular.

Belazu84 · 16/03/2015 07:10

I'd pick Cara.

Cara Jane
Cara Lucy
Cara Madeleine

Orangeisthenewbanana · 16/03/2015 09:05

We had considered Cara and Leah, so probably one of those

Murphy29 · 16/03/2015 09:09

Definitely Aoife, lovely name. Cara also nice but not so keen on the others.

londonkiwi · 16/03/2015 09:36

Anna is my favourite, but I like Cara too.

SusanStoLat1 · 16/03/2015 09:45

Our DD is an Aoife and she loves her name. It's very unusual in Australia. So I'm very biased but my vote is Aoife :)

Janinec123 · 16/03/2015 15:06

Thanks for all your comments. Just don't know what to call Lo if it's a girl we are so set on boys and I do like the names suggested but don't know why I keep thinking about it makes me think we haven't found what we are looking for. We have a meave and Niamh in family so can't use those .

Here's my order of preference...

  1. Leah- I like it to be pronounced ley-a instead of lee-a, but it's a great name
  2. Anna- It's a very nice, but pretty common name. You could always teeter over frozen territory and have it be pronounced aan-a which in my opinion sounds much nicer
  3. Cara-Meh this one is ok, but sounds a bit flat
  4. Aoife- This in my opinion sounds very dull, a bit like some lame showgirl.
So there you go! Have fun deciding! :)

Just a few alternatives to throw in the mix Smile
Mary
Mairead
Sinead
Orla
Nancy
Iona

You have great taste in first names :)

Aoife is my favourite. Anna is lovely but there will be loads coz of frozen. Cara has a great meaning.

Leah is my least favourite.

Not at all keen on Mae.

Janinec123 · 16/03/2015 22:10

Thanks wiggly lines!! Lol we are having a nitemare deciding. Think I've abandoned the idea of Mae as Middle name but I think what I feel is ive always felt Anna was a clear winner for me long before was even pregnant and now Im having second thoughts. Cara Is really becoming a top hitter for us followed closely by aoife. We are in Ireland so aoife will be easily prounced here. Although I do think there is something nice and girly about cara. Just hard not to judge the name on people you know with it!!! Hmm
