I really like the name indigo, but a friend of mine said I can't use it for my baby as she'll be mixed race (Caucasian and Caribbean)- I don't see a problem with this??

Not following her reasoning. Why would her race make the name inappropriate? Personally, I associate it with wacky claims about the Speshul Powers of 'Indigo Children', but that doesn't explain why it's an inappropriate name for a mixed-race child...?

Penguinotterfoxbadger · 12/03/2015 22:15

Don't get the mixed race thing, but don't particularly like the name anyway (sorry)

Amimitchell · 12/03/2015 22:24

No I really didn't understand why she'd said that either.
Have just looked up about indigo children and I find it fascinating! It makes me love the name even more :)

I know a lovely little Indigo, NN Indy. I think it's a great name, and see no reason why you shouldn't use it!! I quite fancied it myself for DD, but didn't in the end. We may use it yet...

MuttonCadet · 12/03/2015 22:26

It's unusual, but I think it's lovely.

ShadowStone · 12/03/2015 22:30

I can't see any reason why Indigo can't be used for a mixed race baby. Isn't indigo a sort of deep blue colour?

HairyHandedFucker · 12/03/2015 22:32

It's fabulous, I love it. Indi is a cool nn too. Do it!
I know one, a girl, aged about seven, and she is cool.

Thanks everyone :)

I love it. My DD2 might just be called this.... our parents will hate but I just can't get past it...

burgatroyd · 31/03/2015 06:51

Dreadful.

Gileswithachainsaw · 02/04/2015 00:10

Love it

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 02/04/2015 00:25

I like it, but prefer India for a girl.

I also don't understand why Indigo wouldn't be suitable for a mixed race baby Confused.

Acer77 · 02/04/2015 14:08

I think it is a lovely name, really pretty. Don't think the mixed race thing should come into it - though actually I think it would suit a girl of Caribbean and Caucasian parentage beautifully!

funnyossity · 02/04/2015 14:13

It's a name I associate with badly socialised kids with self absorbed parents. Sorry but that was my experience albeit 20 years ago!

shakemysilliesout · 02/04/2015 18:38

Makes me think of Jacqueline Wilson characters. Sorry.

MerryMarigold · 02/04/2015 19:57

I suppose the friend was thinking it has connotations of 'dark' and the baby may be darker than those around her depending on where in the country she is (certainly not around here). But who cares? I actually think it would be prettier on a mixed race child. Somehow a very blonde, blue-eyed Indigo would be a bit odd. I think of dark eyes and a bit exotic looking! I don't personally like the name a lot but if you do, I think it would suit very well.

umiaisha · 02/04/2015 21:31

I have a mixed race Indy - a boy though! Love it..

GatoradeMeBitch · 02/04/2015 21:47
