I was keen on Rose Elizabeth, still am, but think I want something a bit less formal. Also I'm scottish and as someone pointed out on here it's a very English sounding name (nothing wrong with that I hasten to add)

Really stumped for alternatives so opinions most welcome!

What does your surname begin with?
If it's 'd' your poor daughter could be called red ie her initials.

TywysogesGymraeg · 10/03/2015 21:59

Rose Mary
Rose Charlotte
Rose Katherine

CluelessDil · 10/03/2015 22:01

Starts with K - good point I hadn't thought about initials!

Think JFK if it helps inspire names!

Rek may not be too good.

Catriona (or Katrina) Rose

CluelessDil · 10/03/2015 22:10

Thanks but I'm definitely keen on keeping Rose as a first name, maybe I'm over thinking the middle name part and it's not necessary or inspiration will come from this thread!

Think about syllables. Rose is short. If your surname is short, I'd like a 3-syllable middle name, like Rose Teresa Green. (Sorry, couldn't resist it, but I am serious!)

Janethegirl · 10/03/2015 22:18

Rose Margaret
Rose Alison..... Not sure with K surname tho'
Possibly better for middle name to begin with a consonant rather than a vowel Smile

temperamentalamongcorvids · 10/03/2015 22:19

Rose is a fantastic first name, it's so nice to see it other than in the mn slot.

Rose Morven
Rose Ishbel
Rose Iona
Rose Ailsa

...all have a Scottish vibe.

Otherwise how about;

Rose Clemency
Rose Matilda
Rose Letitia
Rose Jocasta

CluelessDil · 10/03/2015 22:22

Thanks temperamentalamongcorvids I love the name Rose. Jocasta looks so pretty written down, I've never heard of that name how do you pronounce it?

CluelessDil · 10/03/2015 22:24

I'm also not sure about morven but like the idea of an m middle name so will think about that too

temperamentalamongcorvids · 10/03/2015 22:25

J'casta

poocatcherchampion · 10/03/2015 22:27

We've got a Rosie Elizabeth. Tbh I don't desperately like it, but is in the family and we couldn't decide on a middle name and didnt want to use up our best names in case of further DDS.

So that's helpful.

CluelessDil · 10/03/2015 22:31

It actually is helpful poocatcherchampion Grin

What were your next best names reserved for dd2 if you don't mind me asking? We obviously have similar taste!

How about a Scottish version of Elizabeth?

Rose Elsbeth
Rose Elspeth
Rose Ishbel
Rose Isobel

TongueBiter · 10/03/2015 22:38

Before I even opened the thread I thought "Rose Elizabeth" but the pp's suggestion of a Scottish variation works well too.

Rose Kennedy was JFK's mum wasn't she, and quite a powerful woman.

RickOShay · 11/03/2015 07:23

Rose Valentina
Perfect IMHO.

CoodleMoodle · 11/03/2015 07:27

We were going to have Rosie Elizabeth, but went for Alice instead of Elizabeth. It just seems to suit her!

Elizabeth was the first name I thought of when I saw this thread too.

Justyouwaitandsee · 11/03/2015 07:37

Have you considered Rosa for the first name? Seems to flow a bit more into the surname for me...

Then perhaps a short middle name like May, Ann, Jane, Belle, Faith?

RL20 · 11/03/2015 08:12

RE the initials reading 'red' I don't see that it would be a problem anyway, I know a girl called Red Smile

My name is Rose (not short for anything) although I do like Rosanna! Or Rosalie (similar to my nickname that some people give me, roseylee). My middle name is Elise, which is funny as it's not too dissimilar from Elizabeth, I suppose!

MrsLettuce · 11/03/2015 08:16

Rose Vita

RL20 · 11/03/2015 08:17

Also love the suggestion of Rose Valentina!
Don't read too much into initials, when do you ever really see plain initials written down as the letters only?
When I was younger, I remember thinking about my initials - without middle name - as RC which to me read 'arsey'! But no one else ever sad anything, why would they? No one would have noticed!
