Do these names sound too similar?

Our DD is called Jessica and we are now expecting DS who we would like to call Jasper. We have reservations, though, about the names being too similar - not so much that they both begin with the same letter, it's more the Jess/ Jas sound. Would this be confusing do you think? Do they sound very similar to your ears or are we overthinking this?

I'm not sure. I can see what you mean but I think it's probably fine TBH. Or how about Casper?

Guin1 · 10/03/2015 15:05

Are they likely to end up with nn Jess and Jas?

roastpots · 10/03/2015 16:04

They are close but I think you could get away with it. I can imagine that although Jessica might end up shortened to Jess, Jasper is less likely to be Jas....

I think it's fine.

Hmm, that is pretty close tbh. Imagine calling them around the house and getting two surly teenagers going WHAT? At the same time. Confused

If they were both girls/ boys with names that similar then no but as they are opposite genders you can get away with it

And after baby is born I bet you don't give it a second thought

Spring, do you think/know that DS will be your last?

As if so then Jessica and Jasper are both lovely names, go well together but not overly similar apart from same types of names (lovely, btw!) and obviously 1st letter.

If you have a 3rd, you'd probably have to start another name with J or might all sound bit off compared to other 2, but likewise 3 'J' 1st names are going the Kardashian way perhaps....
