Deia for girl, Viggo for a boy

DH loves Deia (pronounced Day-a) as in town in Mallorca as we went on honeymoon there. I'm not mad on it really but would like to hear others opinions.

We currently call my bump Viggo (from Viggo Mortensen, means 'warlike'). I think it's a cute name but wonder how it goes with a rather uninspiring uk surname. I'm rather used to it now so I wonder what others would think of a baby Viggo. I've met two in real life but they were both Icelandic guys.

I love Scandinavian names but can't find a male one I love. Einar too close to anus, Axel/Aksel seems bit try hard, Stein (Stee-ann) would be pronounced Stane etc. Any thoughts on other options that will work in UK?

I like Deia a lot better than Viggo! Sorry, but I think that name has bullying written all over it.

Malin is a nice Scandinavian name for a girl!

I'm not sure about Deia. I think I quite like it but it's a bit strange - maybe just due to unfamiliarity. I certainly like Maya, Leia and Raya so why not!

Viggo - no. Not as a full name in the UK. It's got a cute sound to it (which I guess is wrong as it means warlike!) but I think too many people would respond with a 'what?!' kind of face.

I do like Axel.

I don't really know many Scandinavian names. Ivan?

For girls I like Thea, Inga, Irma and Ingrid

Einar - not sure how you get anus from any where near that as I'd say it eye- nar.

Erik is a marvellous Viking name as is Magnus .

Surname is Milne so most M names sound bit rubbish. Like Malin but rearrange letters and you nearly have our surname!

Theas18 - E is pronounced A generally so Einar is said like A for apple - A-nar.

I like Erik and Magnus though.

I like Viggo a lot.

I wouldn't name my baby after a place that just leads to people thinking that's where she was conceived.

Fwiw, I personally like Deia. It's pretty and perfectly "sensible" as a name iyswim.

Viggo I'm less sure about. It's a bit try hard for my taste. No worse than a lot of names on this forum though, e.g Arlo, Thaddeus, Gabriel... Maybe I'm just a bit boring with boy names as I much prefer e.g Peter or David

My favourite boy name is David but DH not keen at all. Viggo has just been my bump nickname (this is Viggo2 as DD1 was the original Viggo). It's not really on the name list but it's familiar to me now so it's hard to think whether it might work. Or not as would seem to be the opinion here!

I'm not sure on Deia, but that's because we used to stay in apartments in Mallorca called Deia, to me it would be a bit like calling a child Hilton.

If I had an ounce of Scandinavian on either side, I'd use Torbjörn, Thorbjörn, Torbjørn or Thorbjørn (meaning Thunder Bear) in a shot. But I don't! Not saying if you don't you can't use it, it just felt too non-my culture to use it, personally.

I know a Viggo, he is half-Dutch - I think it works fine as a British name, it's not too out there.

I like both of them ( I know a Deia and it really suits her and I've considered Viggo before ) . Other suggestions would be Torben, Torin/ Thorin or my all- time favourite , Soren .

I love the name Viggo, but also like Magnus and think both go with your last name, tbh. You could even use both!

Daya is okay - just one people are likely to stumble over repeatedly. Which I can tell you is very annoying to live with either as a parent or a kid.

Viggo, not so much. But mostly because I don't like the meaning

I think it is easier for UK girls to pull off unusual/foreign names than it isfor Uk boys. Deia is pretty, and whilst I like Viggo he will always be asked if he has scandinavian ancestry.

Einar is definitely pronounced "eye-nar" here in Norway. Not sure about in the other Scandi countries though!

Some of the most popular boys names over here at the moment are Andreas, Theo, Lukas, Nikolai, Mathias and Jonas (yo-nas)

I like Viggo but it is very Scandinavian.
We have gone for middle name Hunter for DS - a good 'strong' name and few famous Hunters....Hunter Mahon (golfer), Hunter Thompson (author)
