I'm still struggling to come up with a name if DC3 turns out to be DS3.

We found it hard enough to name the first 2 boys...

He's a big list of things that DH and I have suggested, all jumbled together, can i have some opinions and suggestions please. :)

Nicholas
Leon
Gregor
Elliot
Ross
Lee
Liam
Jacob
Douglas
Travis
Daniel
Lucas/Luke
Cole

Thank you.

Some good names. Only one I don't like is Cole. They are what I call names which are generally uncommon, but not so uncommon that people can't spell or pronounce them.

Other similar names include:
Carl/Karl
Stewart/Stuart
Seth
Blake
Blair
Nathaniel
Gareth
Aled
Robert
Jacob
Callum

SoonToBeSix · 01/03/2015 13:39

Like them all except Leon ( depending on culture) and Liam.

ishallnamehimsquishy · 01/03/2015 13:47

Those are my exact criteria river. A few on your list that I like but know some of already so wouldn't use.

I don't like Liam, Leon or Cole either. Grin

Just feels like we're going round in circles a bit. We were happy with DS1's name, DS2 was one where neither of us liked it lots but it suits him fine now. We just have nothing we both like this time. Maybe it'll be a girl....

I like most of your list except Cole and Lee.
Liam, Jacob and Lucas are probably too popular for me, even though not top 10.
I like Elliot, but nn is difficult. Elly could be problematic as so many girls have that nn nowadays.
Favourite is Travis.

Skiptonlass · 01/03/2015 15:56

Eli or Leo, as nicknames for Elliot?

Not keen on Cole, to be honest. Bit too much in the "Kai/kaiden" camp for me. As is Liam.

Like Elliot though, and Seth. I applaud your 'not too common, but not insanely yoo-neek ' stance.

Boys names are harder. We are thinking of possible ones right now and we can't think of anything we like. We are amusing ourselves with collecting truly dreadful ones ( I was served in the chemist by a lovely girl with the unfortunate moniker of "Tres'rheeanna" the other week...ye gods..) and coming up with the most amusing ones we can "peregrine cholmondley smith!"

It's amusing but we still have no name for the baby to be. Also people overhearing us on our walks think we are insane.

SoonToBeSix · 01/03/2015 16:00

I am currently it hospital with my ds 2 Arthu r so obviously love that name Smile

SoonToBeSix · 01/03/2015 16:01

Meant to say my newborn ds2.

coldtoe · 01/03/2015 16:04

The holy grail of a real name which is not used too much.
How about
Timothy/tim
Jim/James

Skiptonlass · 01/03/2015 16:04

How about Owen or robin?

I like Arthur too, soon to be six. No one would pronounce it right here though. Congrats on your new arrival!

ishallnamehimsquishy · 01/03/2015 16:05

ThanksThanks.

I rejected Lucas for the same reason. :-) I'm also unsure about Elliot nn, but not enough to not use it I don't think.

Travis is my 'not really sure' kind of name. I sort of like it, but think I'd get a lot of Hmm faces!

Nicholas
Gregor
Jacob
Douglas
Daniel
Lucas/Luke

calzone · 01/03/2015 16:08

Love Jacob.

Also,

Jonas
Micah
THEO
Max

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/03/2015 16:11

Love Luke.
Like Ross a lot, although I suspect it won't be terribly popular on here.
Hate Travis and Cole.

SoonToBeSix · 01/03/2015 16:12

Thanks skipton

pilates · 01/03/2015 16:23

Jacob is the only one I like.

ishallnamehimsquishy · 01/03/2015 16:24

I quite like Micah, but don't think we could quite pull it off if that makes sense. Probably the same with Travis tbh, I can't picture ua with a baby one at all.

sophronia you've picked out my favourite 4 at the start of your list there I think. Shame dh can't be persuaded. We still have a few months though.

I had a Ross thread once Remus, it was not overly popular. I still quite like it though.

I think the nicest names on your list are:
Nicholas
Leon
Elliot
Jacob
Douglas
Daniel
Lucas
I'm having my first child, a boy, and have found choosing a boy's name exceptionally hard! I would like something classic and timeless, easy to spell, good NN potential but not overly popular. Near enough impossible! My favs are: Arthur, Edward, Reuben and Toby.

ScaryChicken · 01/03/2015 18:03

Douglas is good imo

OutragedFromLeeds · 01/03/2015 18:06

Love; Leon, Elliot, Jacob and Lucas.

Quite like; Daniel and Liam.

Ok; Nicholas, Gregor and Cole

Don't like; Ross, Lee and Travis.

Really don't like; Douglas

akorda · 01/03/2015 19:14

Really like Leon,Daniel and Gregor. Nicholas is a lovely name but would inevitably get shortened to Nick, which is why we avoided it. Just don't like Nick as much.

Luke is nice, but not Lucas IMO

Quite like Douglas, or maybe even Dougal?

What about Paul or Peter? Or Tim? Or Fergus?

Blondie87 If you're avoiding popular names, probably best to avoid Reuben and Toby. There are loads round these parts - SE! and I think they are becoming pretty popular nationwide. Only a handful of Edwards or Arthurs round here. Plus Edward is more of a classic name, with lots of possibilities for nicknames so, even if it does become really popular, you could always choose a less usual nickname.

silveroldie2 · 01/03/2015 19:16

How about Cosmo or Marcus?

ishallnamehimsquishy · 01/03/2015 21:30

Apparently DH hates Douglas, Fergus and Elliot and doesn't like Gregor, Jacob or Nicholas.

Cosmo a bit too unusual for me. Smile I quite like Marcus, but know millions of Marks. So that works be weird for me.

Malcolm has been suggested, which I don't hate. But in Scotland Malky might be inevitable which I'm not so keen on! Mal maybe.

Boys names are too hard!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/03/2015 21:34

Rowan
Ellis
Elias
Idris

ishallnamehimsquishy · 01/03/2015 21:48

All the all the Rowans up here are girls.

Ellis is OK. But if Elliot gets a no vote...

I'm sure we'll get there eventually...
