DH has his heart set on Sid now , which is growing on me . We wouldn't use Sidney atall as just don't like it , so he would always be Sid . Thoughts on Sid? Thanks

It really doesn't bother me that there have been characters, snakes and sloths named the same . That's mostly down to alliteration I'd think and because its quite a quirky name for a quirky little cartoon creature which is quite endearing really . If there was a longer name we could use that Sid could be short for we'd use it , but can't think of any other than the obvious one which we don't like . If anyone can, please do !

Sidonie for a girl?

Leeds2 · 01/03/2015 21:47

I like Sid. I would never be brave enough to use it though.

But Sid isnt really a name in its own right. Even if you found another 'long' name for Sid, I reckon everyone would just assume he's called Sidney!

ZombieZoo · 01/03/2015 22:42

I really like it, I know 2 2 year old boy Sids, short for Sidney

Sophronia · 01/03/2015 23:13

Cassidy with Sid as a nickname? or Isidore?

Sophronia · 01/03/2015 23:15

Theodore's getting more popular so why not Isidore / Isidor Smile

Mrsteddyruxpin · 01/03/2015 23:15

I think it's a cool name, yes - I like it.

ToddKraines · 02/03/2015 16:22

I love it! I know a baby Sid but it is spelt Syd.

ClementineAndCordelia · 02/03/2015 17:27

I've just recently discovered the name Sulien in a Welsh/ Celtic names book ( nn Suli/ Sully) . What do people think of this ? I haven't heard this around atall really so could be a sign that it's not one if those popular, overused , heard- everywhere ones . Better than Sid?

Sid is so much better. I really love Sid stick with it

Smugnogplease · 02/03/2015 20:39

I'm 26 weeks with ds who is sidney and has been since before he was conceived. I'm a bit worried it will rise in popularity , I have a teen Archie so it's happened to us before, but we can't think of an alternative so Sid he shall be. Go for it:)

girliefriend · 02/03/2015 20:48

I know one little boy called Sullivan nn Sully, I like it.

mayaknew · 02/03/2015 20:53

Makes me think of toy story . And Sidney makes me think of scream . Sorry Sad

Slimy name

MamaLazarou · 06/03/2015 18:08

Sidney is a naughty boy's name.

RL20 · 06/03/2015 20:32

I like it! It's one of my mums favourite names for my little boy who is due in April, but unfortunately it's a nickname that my dad gives to one of his old cars! Because of the number plate! So for me I can't really, but I do like it Grin

FishCanFly · 08/03/2015 15:05

I love Sid. Very cool name.

TruJay · 09/03/2015 14:16

Sid is an awesome name! I really like it.
And Sid off ice age is great.
My daughter's name is considered to be 'only a nickname' but we love it.

openthecurtains · 09/03/2015 14:20

All the Sids I know at primary school in KS1 at present are Sid short for Siddarth rather than Sid short for Sidney. I don't know any non-pensioner Sidneys. Could be a regional thing.

HmmAnOxfordComma · 09/03/2015 17:19

There are a few teenage Sidneys (and Stanleys) in the relatively mc schools I've worked in. Love both name, but not sure about Sid on its own...

sugarplumfairy28 · 09/03/2015 19:07

Not sure I like just Sid, I prefer Sidney sorry.
