Known but not popular names

I'm due in July and am stuck on finding names that are known but not popular. I like Rufus, Conrad, Angus, Elliot and Casper for boys and Margot, Polly and Astrid for girls. Any other suggestions?

I'm on the same hunt!
Rufus and Elliott are quite popular id say, and I have a feeling Angus/Gus will rise in popularity soon.
I can't decide what I think of Jed.

The best thing to do is to go with names you like. It is sometimes unpredictable as to where the next very trendy name is going to come from. All it takes is a film to come out or a celeb to choose a name for their baby and the name shoots up the charts out of nowhere. Think that's what happened with Isla and Oscar for e.g.

The best thing you can do if you really want to avoid popularity, however, is to go with popular names from our generation or our parents'. These are now out of fashion but still very known.
Examples:
Boys: David, Mark, Matthew, Paul, Tim
Girls: Rachel, Sara, Nicola, Tamsin, Gillian, Lisa

Other suggestions: Hazel, Hester, Georgina, Felicity, Tessa, Verity, Petra, Lara

Bar Rufus, Conrad and Magnus, those names are quite poplar here! (Scotland) x

The other boys name I love but dh hates is Arlo. Might that be suitable with your surname?

gallicgirl · 28/02/2015 16:59

Fergus
Ingrid

Please don't go with Arlo. Too much like Harlow.

You can have my Gregor, Ross and Stuart. We have two girls but those were our boy names. I think, around here anyway, they fit your bill.

gallicgirl · 28/02/2015 19:54

Nah, you'll be ok.

I quite like it too but DP not so keen, despite him having his own song.

Grin

I quite like Greg too but not sure if it's old-fashioned in a bad way.

If your really bothered about popularity this app is great names.darkgreener.com/#

It tells you how many of that name were born each year since 1996 and you can also therefore see which names have an upwards trajectory, for example Rufus is here names.darkgreener.com/#rufus and it's getting more and more well used.

I found it useful as it's put me off the name Aurelia as it's going to boom soon it seems. I am 80's born Jennifer so I want my babies to have fairly unusual names :)
