4 boys names, which one to use?

Little boy is due in May. We have 4 names that we love. We like traditional names, and I quite like medieval connections. We are ideally wanting it to be outside the top 100 list.
What are your opinions?

Edmund- this is the name we had picked out before we got pregnant and I always thought we would use it, but now not sure it's still my favourite.

Robin- this one is my favourite, but probably not DH's.

Ambrose- DH's favourite, and I love it because it's quite rare, but I worry people won't recognise the name and will be asking us to spell it or explain it.

Felix- the only name that doesn't really meet our criteria of traditional and not popular, but we both think it's so cute!

Like them all, although worry you would lose the distinctiveness of Edmund to Ed or Eddie, and I do think Ambrose might be quite hard to carry off. Robin and Felix are probably my favourites, for that reason...

Sophronia · 16/02/2015 17:27

Ambrose, it's the most unusual and I'd love to see / hear of it being used.

diddl · 16/02/2015 17:29

I like Felix the best.

Allalonenow · 16/02/2015 17:31

Edmund and Felix are my favourites.

Alyx80 · 16/02/2015 17:31

Felix :)

BunnyLebowski · 16/02/2015 17:34

Felix.

Edmund is ok. Love Ned. Like Ed.

Robin and Ambrose conjur up images of effete namby pamby Niles Crane types to me. I appreciate this is irrational but it's the case.

loislines · 16/02/2015 17:35

Felix just sounds like cat food to me, sorry!

I love Edmund, it was on our list, but like pp said I worried that it would end up as Ed, which I'm not a fan of.

Robin is lovely.

I'm not a massive fan of Ambrose, but I don't think you'd have trouble with people not recognising it.

Koalafications · 16/02/2015 17:36

I like Ambrose and Felix

HootOnTheBeach · 16/02/2015 17:36

Ambrose is lovely - I don't think people will have much trouble with that!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 16/02/2015 17:37

Love Edmund, and love Robin even more. Dislike the other two, sorry.

BathtimeFunkster · 16/02/2015 17:39

Ambrose is awful to my ears.

The name for a fat, posh uncle whose trousers are too tight and whose sideburns are too bushy.

Lunastarfish · 16/02/2015 17:40

hI love Robin

BananaToast · 16/02/2015 17:43

I'd go for Robin.

Edmund would be shortened to Ed/Eddie which I'm not keen on.

Felix is too associated with cat food for me.

And Ambrose seems a bit girly to my ears - like a hybrid of Amber and Rose.

thesmallbear · 16/02/2015 17:44

Ambrose - rice pudding/custard.

Felix - is a cat's name.

Jemimapuddleduk · 16/02/2015 17:44

Prefer Edwin to Edmund.
Robin is lovely as is Felix.
Ambrose just makes me think of rice pudding- sorry.

ressyHedMair · 16/02/2015 17:46

Tough

I like Redmond but not Edmund
I like Robert /Robbie but not Robin
Ambrose is ridiculous sorry,
so Felix is the least risky choice there imo.

ressyHedMair · 16/02/2015 17:47

How about Robin Edmund, Red for short. Ned and Ted have been done already.

MerlinsBeard87 · 16/02/2015 17:55

Ambrose certainly seems to divide people! We've been a bit secretive of these names in real life so haven't tested them out on friends and family- it's been useful to hear your opinions!

I'm hoping we might just "know" the right name when we see him

Definitely Robin.

Ambrose is really awful.

shakemysilliesout · 16/02/2015 18:27

Edmund or robin.

My relation Edmund is never ed- but it's good he has the option. Same for robin nn rob if he likes. But both are lovely as full names too.

Nightingalemumoftwo · 16/02/2015 18:31

Not keen on Felix. The rest are good.

DramaAlpaca · 16/02/2015 18:34

I prefer Edmund to any of the others.

IMurderedStampyLongnose · 16/02/2015 18:39

Edmund elephant
Felix cat food
Ambrose (ia) custard
Robin (redbreast)

Sorry, but this is what they conjure up for me.

Tranquilitybaby · 16/02/2015 18:43

Felix is a great boys name.

Notso · 16/02/2015 18:46

I love Robin. I wanted it for DC4 but was in shock after his birth (it was only about 25 mins and mostly unassisted until the paramedic arrived) so DH said his choice and that was that.

Ambrose is cool. I love names like this but wouldn't dare to use them.

I really don't like Felix and I hate the 'mund' of Edmund. I love Edward though.
