Girls Name - sigh...

I know they are both really boring, but we've been round the houses with so many names (keep losing out to close friends popping sprogs all around us) and have finally settled on Holly or Rose (Rosie?).

I know Rose is overused but it was my grandmothers name and she died this year. Plus I think Rosie is quite pretty, and although I know a bunch of people who have used it as a middle name, I only know one who has it as a first name and they are not close close friends. My DH is a bit concerned it is an old lady name.

Holly, yes I know some people think it's a December name, but we both like it, and we don't know any at all. My mother won't like it though.. She won't think it's "posh" enough, but I don't suppose that matters. I just worry it isn't very grown up or has much depth for an adult.

I know I don't sound in love with either, but seriously, we have exhausted the name book back to front and don't agree on very much at all. So it's the best we can come up with.

Does anyone have any helpful comments to help me decide? Thanks!

Thank you all. It sounds as though Rose is a clear favourite on here!

Definitely Rose. It's beautiful and timeless.

I think rose is lovely as a first name. It's used lots as a middle name but it's a nice name so why not?!!
I also like rosa! And rosaline (Romeo loved her before Juliet!)

Rose is gorgeous! It's not overused as a first name at all, and you can use Rosie as a nn. Much prefer it to Holly. Plus it has such a special meaning to you. Go for it.

Rose is a beautiful name and I haven't heard it used recently as a first name. Holly is lovely, I know an adult Holly and it works well.

Rose is beautiful!

I'm a Holly and I love my name, it works fine as an adult. Rose is one of my favourite names though and I like the family connection so I'd probably choose that.

Rose is lovely. Holly is nice to but feels somehow less substantial to me (if that makes sense!)

SecretlyobsessedbyLego · 19/02/2015 11:37

My name is Holly and I wasn't born in December. I actually like my name...I vote Holly Smile

I think we're using Rosie for our dd who is due any time now and also having wobbles, I worry it's too cutesy for an adult although everyone we've told have said they love the name.

I also know a Holly who wasn't born in December and is very posh.

Rose is beautiful. Yes popular but it will never date x

People I know keep advising me to wait until we see her and then decide. Does anyone here really think that works?
