uncommon but not 'crazy' girls names

i was hoping people could suggest me some sensible girls names that you're not going to hear shouted by a dozen different parents in a small playground. my top list right now is:

Melina (Greek name), Rosalie, Rosemary, Martina, Norma and Adelaide

I also love Wanda and Mistym but I think they sound a bit airy-fairy too. My boyfriend likes gender-neutral names and has his heart set on Robin which I like, but don't love.

Oops! I meant Misty not Mistym (might be obvious but you never know with some of the names on this website)

I love Kitty and Winnifred at the moment.

sleepybee · 15/02/2015 14:46

Rowan is a nice alternative to robin /Robyn

My suggestions from my own list are Megan, Niamh (Neve), Orlaith (Orla)

I also love Emma, Erin & Elouise - but none of these go with our surname

noddyholder · 15/02/2015 14:47

I like Robin

Bowlersarm · 15/02/2015 14:49

Yes, Robyn is fab. Very cool.

Briony?

Slacktacular · 15/02/2015 15:03

Worth knowing that Melina is pronounced the same as the medical term 'melaena' (the blood poo you get after a gastrointestinal bleed). If she grows up to become a Dr/nurse etc that'll be a cross to bear (speaking as someone who works with one - she's pretty bored of the jokes)

krazipan · 15/02/2015 15:14

I was about to post the same thing slacktacular!

Aurelia. My fave name at the minute

PerryNotCider · 15/02/2015 15:23

There a quite a few Rosemary and Rosealie (blame Twilight) where I live, and most Rose type names. Might be different where you are though.

Bethan
May
Rae

I know an Aurora. And a Cecily.

I think both are pretty, and not too "out there".

I also agree with the poster above about 'Melina' - it's a very unfortunate sound-a-like.

Marina is a beautiful name. I like Irene too.

Marianne
Antonia
Emmeline
Saskia
Elspeth

My current favourite name is Avelyn - sort of a cross between the far more popular-at-the-moment Ava and Evelyn. I read it in a early 20th century children's book, but have never seen/heard it anywhere else.

StayGoldPonyBoy · 15/02/2015 16:52

I like Rowan, it was on my maybe pile for our DD who is Ingrid.

I also like Cecily, Rosalind, Darcy, Melina, Arwen, Elspeth.

SecretNutellaFix · 15/02/2015 17:15

My favourite girls names at the minute are Winifred, Dorothea, Cecilia and Rosalind.

Muskey · 15/02/2015 17:18

How about Michaela

SantanaLopez · 15/02/2015 17:21

Norma is dreadful.

Gina? There's a little girl called Gina at DD's nursery, I think it's a great name.

ScrambledEggAndToast · 15/02/2015 17:23

Bethany/Eleanor.

RJnomore · 15/02/2015 17:25

I love sadie and Lydia just now.
