Driving myself nuts over girls names!

So our list for DD2 just keeps changing as I always seem to like a name then go off it. I would just love to find 2, 3, or even 4 names that both DH and I love and then we can decide when we see her. She's due in April and DD1 is Louisa. Ideally we want something that complements Louisa but they don't necessarily have to be the same style if we love the name enough. Our list at the minute is

Isabella (not that popular here so that's not an issue. This is probably the only name that's stayed on the list consistently and yet I'm still not totally sure)

Tessa (probably DHs fave at mo but I'm not totally sure although I do like)

Cara ( a new one that's just come up today and is growing on both of us)

Annie ( this also only came up today, think I like it more than DH but he does like it too. I don't really like any of the longer versions and we can't have Anna so it would be Annie as full name)

Mia ( DH not sold but I can't let it go for some reason)

Any thoughts on these? Or any other suggestions we might like?
Thank you! x

Isabella is pretty

BehindEveryCloud · 06/02/2015 00:16

Not that the others are bad!

HearTheThunderRoar · 06/02/2015 00:32

Cara is a lovely a name, goes very well with Louisa.

upallnight2015 · 06/02/2015 07:41

I love Annie! I think Annie and Louisa go very well together

Zsazsabinks · 06/02/2015 08:15

Cara means 'face' in Portuguese, so we couldn't have it but I like it other than that. Clara is also lovely. (other 'c' names, Celeste, Clemence?)

Annie, no. That 'Tomorrow' song and everything.

Tessa is nice. I used to walk a dog called Tessa when I was at school, it's a silly name for a dog! Have a cousin called Tessa too and she's gorgeous and stylish and in her 40s, also haven't seen any little ones around lately.

Isabella is lovely, what about things like Ishbel, Imelda, Isolde, Isabel, Isobel? There was a thread on here about Isadora recently too!

Lunastarfish · 06/02/2015 10:16

All your name are nice, Mia is my favourite and Tessa is my least favourite. With Annie, how about Antonia with Annie as nn?

RL20 · 06/02/2015 10:38

I like Tessa from your list! The others are nice too but just not my cup of tea - personal preference but nothing against the names!

I know what you mean about not letting go of a name. Were expecting a baby boy and I've been really overly picky with names. I'm 29 weeks and still only have the same 3 names I had at the beginning! One in particular my partner says he doesn't like, but I really can't let it go! And even when I think about my bump I'm calling him by that name in my head without even thinking!

squoosh · 06/02/2015 10:47

Tess/Tessa is lovely.

Isabella may not be popular where you are right now but it will be popular when she goes somewhere else. She doesn't want to be one of 7 Isabellas at work.

Mia is such a weak sound, plus it's also uber popular.

Cara is quite nice.

Annie is a bit grannyish, but not in a good way.

Sophronia · 06/02/2015 11:10

I think Louisa and Annie are perfect together.

wigglesrock · 06/02/2015 11:11

I think I've been on one of your threads before Smile
Isabella - I like
Tessa - I don't, but love love Tess. I don't like Tessa because it screams mid 80s TV personality to me. I know, it's my age.
Mia - it's a bit meh, almost unfinished.
Cara - it's lovely, but I know loads under the age of 3, it's a very go to name at the minute where I live
Annie - it's alright

wesH · 06/02/2015 11:12

Cara is a lovely name, as is Annie, though i think Annie works better as a nickname, maybe for Anna, Anne, or Annabel.

Isabella is very popular and probably not actually nice enough for it to be worth it. Tessa is ugly and Mia means "Mine" and "bitter" so

squoosh · 06/02/2015 11:13

Cara means 'friend' in Irish which is a bit nicer than the Portugese meaning mentioned upthread.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 06/02/2015 14:16

Isabella - lovely
Tessa - I prefer Tess
Annie - no
Mia - don't like it much
Cara - nice

Sparkleheart · 06/02/2015 14:50

Thanks!

Wigglesrock this is indeed my millionth thread about names, I just keep going round in circles!

RL20 my real can't let go name is Amelia but DH just won't budge on it! I know if he would, that would be me done and dusted with picking names!

Lunastarfish I quite like Antonia but dh not keen. Unfortunately there don't seem to be any longer forms of Annie that we like enough to use. Apart from Anna which I love but his best friend's dd is called that arggh!!

A couple of ppl like Tess over Tessa and tbh I am the same but our surname begins with S so any names ending in S just smoosh together too much.

Zsazsabinks I want to love Clara but just don't for some reason! Not keen enough on any of the alternatives to isabella either unfortunately!

My main problem is the names I like the best - emily and sophia - have already been recently used by dh's cousins who live in the same small village as us. So I'm finding it so hard to find 'the name' that I love as much as those which is why I'm dithering so much over it!

Ella ?

RL20 · 06/02/2015 15:19

I know how you feel.
I've posted so many threads regarding boys names as my partner isn't keen on my favourite name. One thread has over 90 comments with different names and I'm still stuck on my same favourite name!

Does he have any reasonable suggestions or helping you much with the input into finding a name? If he is the fair play to him. But my partner is just coming out with names that sound silly to me. One person said to me on here to wait until after the birth and then see if he'll agree with your name choice after seeing you go through labour and childbirth!

GingerLDN · 06/02/2015 15:28

I like some of the names but they don't seem to roll off the tongue so easily together (but it may just be my accent). For that reason I prefer Annie.

Sparkleheart · 06/02/2015 15:31

Shonaocasey I like Ella a lot but surprise dh doesn't! Well not enough to use it anyway.

RL20 he definitely does not help much or really ever offer suggestions! The odd time he has suggested something but that def doesn't happen very often. He's just very cut and dried about what he does and doesn't like whereas I think you have to think a name over for a while before just discounting it straight away. He just really loves tessa at the mo so it's hard to get him to properly consider others. It's probably not a bad way to be mind you, I just overthink everything so much and then just can't commit to one name over another!

I like all of the names on your list.

I think we have fairly similar taste. Our list for DD was:
Louisa
Helena
Martha
Tess

I also love Katherine and Annabel but they were 'taken' so didn't make our shortlist.

SomeSunnySunday · 06/02/2015 17:02

Oh, and I really like Imogen. Again, it was so far into the 'taken' category that it fell off my radar completely when naming DD.

UnrelatedToElephants · 06/02/2015 17:08

If you like Isabella, how about Annabel/Annabella to get to Annie?

Trooperslane · 06/02/2015 17:15

What about Anna nn Annie?

Cara means 'friend' in Irish.

Or if you don't mind the double L, Lara is lovely biased

Sunnysideup5883 · 06/02/2015 19:16

Bess and Tess are great

Or Belle

Clara goes well with Louisa

Sunnysideup5883 · 06/02/2015 19:23

Ruth

Sparkleheart · 06/02/2015 22:37

SomeSunnySunday our tastes are definitely similar! Love Martha but dh not keen. We did like Imogen a while back but went off it a wee bit.

Unrelatedtoelephants I like Annabel and whilst dh does too, he doesn't like it enough to use it. These men are awful hard to please!

Trooperslane dh's best friend's dd is called Anna so can't use it unfortunately! Love Lara but think prefer them not to have the same initial.

Sunnysideup I want to love Clara as I also think it goes well with louisa but I just don't love it enough. Not too keen on Ruth and avoiding any names that end in S as surname starts with S so they smoosh together too much.

Think me and DH are both starting to love Cara! We are in ireland so love that if means 'friend' in Irish. Also love the 'beloved' meaning!
