Gabriel is lovely! My favourite by far from your list (hope it's yours!). Jude is quite nice too. How about Elliot or Reuben? X

BlueStarsAtNight · 04/02/2015 09:27

Gabriel - not a fan
Ellis - love it
Jude - quite like
Stanley - love it
Sydney - like it but think the male version is Sidney?
Xavier - don't like
Cain - really don't like

LollyLondon · 04/02/2015 10:53

I really like Gabriel and Jude!

Don't like Ellis, Cain or Sydney.

Others "ok"

vixsatis · 04/02/2015 11:00

In the Bible I think Cain was the first murderer- killed his brother.

Ellis is awful. The rest are ok

Funkytown · 04/02/2015 11:01

gabriel and jude !!

TempsPerdu · 04/02/2015 11:02

Gabriel for me, then Xavier. Both lovely. Not a fan of Sydney or Cain but the others are all OK.

squoosh · 04/02/2015 11:24

Gabriel and Jude for me too. Both brilliant names.

Not keen on any of the others.

mrsnoon · 04/02/2015 11:26

I like Jude the most out of all of them. Was on my shortlist but H wasnt keen.

Hairtodaygonetomorrow · 04/02/2015 11:33

Is Cain a joke? Honestly, a murderer, vagabond, cursed to roam the earth without reward? It's not a cute Biblical name, it's usually used as a symbolic name for evil in computer games and the like. Kane I think is ok and wouldn't have the same connotations.

I know a little Stanley, I didn't like it initially but it has really grown on me.

Gabriel, Jude, Xavier, Ellis all fine and a matter of preference.

Sydney- not sure why you would spell it like that it looks weird and looks like you can't spell Sidney- although I think Sid can be a cool name.

Smugnogplease · 04/02/2015 11:34

Our short lists are similar, if it helps here's mine

Sidney
Quentin
Jude
Rupert
Henry
Hector
Laurie
Richard
Marius
Barnaby

Smugnogplease · 04/02/2015 11:35

I also love Guy!

cattyf · 04/02/2015 12:52

Cain was something DH added but as he knows nothing about the bible he didn't make those connections. It kind of echoes my worry that the name sounds aggressive.

The spelling of Sydney was due to my Grandfather having the name and using that spelling (I don't know the reason he didn't spell it Sidney) but point taken.

I like Elliot but a friend just used it for her baby.

The other two which I ruled out because I don't really like the shortened version are Benedict (would be called Ben which is my BIL name) or Lucian (would be called Luke which I'm not keen on)

From the suggestions I really like Xavier, Sydney and Quentin. Or how about Dominic?

NadiaWadia · 04/02/2015 18:41

Gabriel, Jude and Xavier are nice (how to you pronounce Xavier?) Stanley and Sydney are old men's name really, OK as middle names. I don't like surnames for first names in general. And yes Cain is not a good association! I think Gabriel is my favourite.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 05/02/2015 15:39

Gabriel - nice
Ellis - lovely
Jude - nice
Stanley - dislike
Sydney - dislike
Xavier - dislike
Cain - dreadful

I like Stanley and Sydney.

RabbitSaysWoof · 09/02/2015 18:42

Ellis and Gabriel are my faves there.

jimmycrackcornbutidontcare · 09/02/2015 18:46

I like Gabriel a lot. Stanley is quite cute (for a little boy, maybe not for a man). The rest I dislike.

Vastra · 09/02/2015 19:47

Really like Ellis and Stanley. Xavier, I quite like, but make sure you both have the same way of pronouncing it.
Personally I would avoid Cain because of the connotations. Even without the bible there are two pretty unpleasant soap characters.
I always think of Jude as a girls name, but only because I know. Judith who goes by Jude. Still really like it though.
