Matthew and Matilda - too close for cousins?

Our niece is Matilda, known as Tilly, and the frontrunner for our boy is Matthew. It's just occurred to me that they're quite closely linked...what do you all think, too close for first cousins? Matilda has never been called Mattie as far as I know, but I'm suddenly doubting myself!

I think it's absolutely fine.

Could you run it by your parents or parents in law, if you are close enough.

I think it's fine. I'm biased about the name Matthew though :) we have two Anna's and an Emma and am Emily in our family an no one has batted an eyelid as far as I know.

I don't think they're that similar, perhaps too close for siblings but certainly fine for cousins.

Cousins as in live next door, will be in the same class at school or cousins as in might see one another once a year?

Unless the first is true and you plan to call yours Matti, I don't think it's an issue.

Different parts of the country, only see them a few times a year (sadly). Different surnames too. This is good - sounds like it's probably fine. Pregnancy is doing strange things to my thought processes!

Completely fine, even if they lived next door. Matt and Tilly, sorted.

In my family we have first cousins Paul and Paula. If that works, Matthew and Matilda should be easy.
