It's not a name is it? Isn't it just made up? Like a cross between Eliza and Elaine.

Optimist1 · 26/01/2015 13:44

Never ever heard that name.

HelloItsStillMeFell · 26/01/2015 13:50

I don't think it's a real name, at least not in the English language.

Not all names have a meaning anyway. I doubt there is a name invented in the last 100 years that has had any sort of true meaning.

IsadoraQuagmire · 26/01/2015 14:11

It means you can't spell Eliza! (Seriously though, I've never heard it before)

Sophronia · 26/01/2015 14:11

Is it some kind of variant spelling of Eliza? If so it's a short form of Elizabeth which "my God is an oath" or "my God is abundance".

seaoflove · 26/01/2015 14:13

Yep, it looks like Eliza spelled wrong.

PetulaGordino · 26/01/2015 14:14

elaiza looks like phonetic spelling of a fake posh voice, like naice ham

florascotia · 26/01/2015 14:21

The band's lead singer is called Elsbieta, a Polish version of Elizabeth which often has the nn Ela (the singer uses this nn). The band's web page says that the name should be pronounced Ela-i-sa. That suggests that the band's name is based on her nn.

Alternatively, Elaisa is the name of a house design in the Philippines. (Wonderful thing, Google.) So Elaisa -with-an-s might be a name created fairly recently in that region. In which case, as Hello said above, it might not have any meaning.

Alternatively again, Shahira Elaiza writes a blog about the arts and her Muslim faith: www.shaelaiza.com/ She might know more about her name.

I went to school with a boy called Eliezer.

Is that the name you mean?

It's a Hebrew/Old Testament name. He pronounced it

E as is Edward
Lee
A as in Amy
Zer as in Laser
