i had thought of Isaac jones but when i actully say it im not so sure. then i though harvey jones then i thought that sounds like a department store. :/

Know what you mean, as I'm a Jones too! Think it does need something a bit more distinctive to avoid sounding too plain, and I think slightly longer names tend to sound better. My absolute favourite is Gabriel Jones, which I think sounds fab (like lots of Sophronia's suggestions too). Or:

Xavier Jones
Tobias Jones
Barnaby Jones
Elliot Jones
Alexander Jones
Dominic Jones
Rufus Jones
Orson Jones
Cassian Jones
Magnus Jones
Stellan Jones

Quite like Isaac Jones, but agree that Harvey Jones sounds like a department store (I'd avoid Peter Jones for the same reason! Smile)

ghostspirit · 25/01/2015 15:03

thank you perdu and haha i dont know how to say some of them names. how do you say xavier? orson? cassian?

and yeah im leaning towards isaac. i will probably change my mind another 40 times

Anything Welsh. Rhys? Owen?

Marmot75 · 25/01/2015 21:35

I think you can go a bit wild with Jones. I think two syllable names sound best. Think Moses Jones, Milton Jones.

I knew an Orson Jones which I liked. Pronounced Or-son.

I knew a Xavier who pronounced it Za-vi-eh. Or Zav for short. I don't know the name Cassian.

DoTheStrand · 25/01/2015 21:39

I have a Cassian Smile - pronounced as it looks, Cass-ee-an. In the US I think they pronounce it Cashun but no one's ever called him that here. Only ever had good feedback on the name too.
I also like:
Nathaniel
Christian
Rory
Roman

Temps, you have nearly got my whole list with ds1 and my pets name in your list Grin

TestNamePleaseIgnore · 25/01/2015 21:50

I actually like Jones as a first name.

Isaac Jones sounds really good.

I think a two syllable name sounds best with Jones.

TempsPerdu · 25/01/2015 22:00

Great minds, yellow! Wink

Definitely agree that you can go a bit wild with Jones, but personally I'd be a bit wary of choosing anything really out there as it risks sounding a bit try hard - either action hero (think Indiana) or Bond girl!

tinymeteor · 25/01/2015 22:05

Avoid Hugh/Huw. I knew someone called Hugh Jones who was generally referred to as Huge Ones

shoobidoo · 26/01/2015 06:44

I would avoid a common name and agree that an unusual one would be great with such a popular surname. Lots of great suggestions already but how about
Damian Jones
Quentin Jones
Reuben Jones
Nathan Jones

Rustyzilla · 26/01/2015 09:04

Am also a Jones so interested in this thread! We aren't Welsh though so I am actively avoiding anything that sounds remotely Welsh. Also, we don't know the sex so also looking for girls names.

Anyway, David Jones is an actual department store so avoid that!

We have so far:

Charlie
Harry
Henry
Zach/Zachary
Samuel
Edward
Matthew
Joshua

TotleighTowers · 26/01/2015 17:59

Jones sounds very cool with most 3/4 syllable names. Gabriel Jones is lovely. Gabriel would have been on my list but it sounds rubbish with our surname.

I also like Lysander and Orlando and think they sound good with Jones, but they might be a bit too out there?

Other more popular names which I think sound nice:

Alexander Jones
Benjamin/ Benedict Jones
Elliot Jones
Rufus Jones
Sebastian Jones
Theodore Jones

As PPs have said, avoid Peter, Harvey (and Nathan... Isn't that a song?)...

ghostspirit · 28/01/2015 18:05

im thinking about ethan jones now? but im not so sure because my mums name is eve and i dont like her. and im thinking they sort of sound similar :/

I've got an Adam Jones, bit weird that it would be described as plain :/ he originally had a wild surname but I got married and changed it by deed poll.

My husband wants a Jack Jones! But seeing as he only seems to produce girls, I needn't worry about that :)

fanjodisfunction · 28/01/2015 19:53

I think pretty much any name goes with Jones because its so popular itself.

it was my maiden name and I have a lot of Jones family I shall list the living rellies for you (one is slightly odd, can u guess which one Smile )

When I had my first child 18 years ago, I liked a lot of Christian names beginning with J, Joshua, Jake, James, Joseph, but I avoided them as thought they sounded too much with Jones. But actually I think they sound good now.
