Middle name for Emily

In am currently overdue with DD1 and still can't decide on her name!

First name will probably be Emily - it is a name I have always wanted for a girl, and despite it's popularity it's the only name we agree on and that goes with our surname. Other first names I have considered were Isabella, Poppy, Charlotte and Ava (to give an idea of my tastes)

I am now stuck for a middle name. Surname is quite short (and starts with M) so am open to longer and more adventurous middle name. Would love to honour various family members, but sadly not at all keen on their names, which include Lesley, Brenda or Joanne.

Any and all suggestions would be welcome please!!

When I read the title I immediately thought Rose.

LadyWellian · 23/01/2015 14:07

Is it a one-syllable surname? I'd usually lean towards a one-syllable middle name with Emily but with a one-syllable surname that might sound a bit odd/abrupt.*

My great (or great-great? can't remember) grandmother was called Emily Beatrice, which would be nice with a one-syllable surname.

*Fully prepared to accept I might look at this oddly; with DD I started with knowing I wanted a middle name with three syllables and the stress on the middle one... that does actually sound a bit crazed now I write it down. Blush

Thank you so much for your suggestions everyone! I do like Rose as a middle name just to add my 2 cents!

There are some lovely suggestions - I am going in today to be induced so it will give me something to read and think over!

Ps loving Ian having the initials IAN!!!

We chose a middle name which had a family connection. So my ds has my maiden name and my daughter has my dh's mother's maiden name.

LizzieMint · 24/01/2015 07:18

I have an Emily Charlotte, so would have to suggest that.
We ummed and ahhed about using Emily because of it's popularity. My Emily is now 8 and we haven't yet come across another child named Emily - we know a few adults. It's bizarre, it's such a popular name they must be hiding somewhere.

Rhubarbgarden · 24/01/2015 09:29

I like Ian being an IAN too. We did this, kind of, with ds by accident. He's a Gus and his initials are GVS. I Didn't notice it until I wrote his initials on his scooter when he started nursery aged two, and suddenly realised it looked like I'd written his first name a bit weirdly.

Basically anything aside from Louise Rose or Mai. No one can seem to see any further than these names for middle names

Benchmark · 24/01/2015 14:17

I think Emily Kate or Emily Anne. I know a little Emily Anne who gets called Emmy-Anne sometimes which is sweet.

I agree about Rose, when did everyone suddenly decide to use Rose and May as middle names over every other name!
It happened with Louise in the 80's. Nice name but so bizarre.

Benchmark · 24/01/2015 14:19

Or Emily Beth! Lovely.

dragdownthemoon · 25/01/2015 14:30

Emily Kate

Bellisperennis · 25/01/2015 15:37

I know an Emily Elizabeth, Emily Rose, Emily Victoria and an Emily Dawn

TheFairyCaravan · 25/01/2015 15:42

Our last name begins with an M.

If DS2 had been a girl he was going to be Emily Kate.

Secret18 · 09/06/2018 02:21

Well my name is Emily Rose and I think it's a good name. I grew up loving my name. My closest friends and family call me Emmy. So that's a suggestion Smile

LucyJ61 · 09/06/2018 08:27

Emily Alexandra sounds beautiful

LucyJ61 · 09/06/2018 08:28

Also like the previous suggestion of Emily Kate.

LoveInTokyo · 09/06/2018 10:56

Congratulations OP.

Emily is quite short and if your surname is only one syllable I would go for a slight longer middle name.

Emily Catherine
Emily Alexandra
Emily Josephine
Emily Rebecca
Emily Victoria
Emily Antonia
Emily Constance
Emily Jessica
