Back again - Isabella or Isabelle?

Hi all,

After lots discussion we've narrowed our shortlist down for our DD who is three weeks old already this Saturday.

The popularity of these isn't an issue for us and are relieved to be down to two names!

Really struggling to agree on which to chose however...

Any preferences?

We'd need to decide on spelling if we chose Isabelle. There are some French roots on one side but likewise would want to avoid spelling issues.

The suggestions are all good though prefer Isabelle/a. Annabelle/a was discussed, however the former trumped probably given our penchant for Z.

Zarabelle? :)

Sorted ;-)

I find Isabella really princessy, frilly, too girly. Definitely a vowel too far! I like Isabelle much more (though prefer the Isobel or Isabel spellings) and it's less likely to be shortened in my experience.

chuffchuff · 21/01/2015 14:57

What about...

Raffaella
Mirabelle/a
Lilianna
Isannah
Lisianna
Estella

A bit more unusual but the same 'type' of names...

chuffchuff · 21/01/2015 14:58

Btw I do like Isabel (with any spelling), but the popularity would put me off.

Twitterqueen · 21/01/2015 15:00

Blimey, make up your own mind love. Your daughter, your choice. You're the one who'll be using it for the next 18 + years....

(Sorry, couldn't resist - feeling grumpy old git today)

louisnz · 21/01/2015 15:10

No biggie, my mind is made up - which is the problem Grin

Zadie, Christabel, Irene?

louisnz · 21/01/2015 15:42

Those are nice though don't gel for me

Right well it seems you like Isabelle, but she might likely be known by a diminutive or Isabelle F. If that doesn't bother you then you must really love the name!

Its such a pity about Zara

Angelto5 · 21/01/2015 16:44

Will she have a middle name OP?

louisnz · 21/01/2015 16:57

Well the middle name is easier. We'll probably go for Grace as the relevant family names don't really work with Isabella/e.

OP posts:
Angelto5 · 21/01/2015 17:12

I think Isabelle flows better with Grace IMO

sofahogger · 21/01/2015 17:59

Isabella, I've got one and the only person who's allowed to call her izzy is her brother and her dad. If anybody else calls her by a shortened version they will get told off by her.
I think it's a beautiful name and as she's very girly and loves princesses it suits her very well.

LovethenameDaphne · 21/01/2015 18:21

Isobel or Isabella. I prefer Isabella personally. The girly princess thing is a good thing IMO Grin

LovethenameDaphne · 21/01/2015 18:23

Grace is such a popular middle name, if I were you I'd pick a more unusual middle name as Isabel/la is so popular.

TheHorseHasBolted · 21/01/2015 19:46

Isabelle, but I prefer the spelling Isabel.

Baffledma · 07/02/2021 20:28

So how did you call your daughter!

Brighterthansunflowers · 07/02/2021 20:48

Isabella

If Isabelle I prefer the spelling Isobel or Isabel, Isabelle is too fussy

TinyCake · 07/02/2021 20:53

Isabelle
Though I prefer Isobel

TinyCake · 07/02/2021 20:54

Sorry just realised this is REALLY old

Cressie2 · 07/02/2021 22:08

Isabella

lorettAspaghettA · 07/02/2021 22:10

Isobel. Isabella is a touch too princess.
