What will be Claudia's middle name?

Our DD2 is due in around 6 weeks and so far the only name DH & I agree on is Claudia. (We initially liked Francesca but decided it was a bit too much of a mouthful).

No strong feelings about middle names though - we already used 'family' names for DD1 so there is no name I feel we ought to use.

The only one I like so far is Claudia Emmeline but think DH will say it's too long.

Names ending in T don't suit our surname so Harriet, Juliet, etc are out.

Dd1 has a name starting with M, same syllables as Claudia. She has 2 middle names as we were trying to please both grandmothers! I'd really like to give both girls 2 middle names just to be consistent but DH keeps telling me it will drive them mad when filling out forms later in life!

Any ideas?

Ah, I see (wrt to two middle names)...

Do you know why your DH is going cool on Claudia?

Had you considered Imogen? I'd put that in the same group as Claudia.

Btw, Francesca is beautiful. It's my favourite girls' name. I know it's long but it's really the same length as Claudia when you break it down into syllables, isn't it? You could follow Francesca with two one syllable middle names maybe, if you like it?

I like Imogen (and DH did too), but a friend who lives locally has already used it. Not that that's a real reason for discounting a name completely, but it does put me off a bit.

Weirdly his reason for going off Claudia is he thinks it sounds like a grown up name not a little girl! But surely all grown up Claudias were little girls once...and far better to give a name that will grow with them and sound good as an adult name.

I think we've both discounted Francesca now, I like it but I think Claudia is better with our surname and with DD1's name.

She will be a grown up a lot longer than she will be a little girl! It is such a lovely, elegant name but she could be Claudie when little, I know a very cool teenager who is Claud and pulls it off.

Claudia Charlotte May

Romilly Claudia Faye

Belinda Annabel Mae

Annabel Claudia Hope

Hmmm... I don't think of Claudia as a grown-up name specifically... I mean every Claudia was seven at one time and, as Dothackmenow points out, your daughter will be a grown woman for many more years than she will be a child! I think it's a beautiful name that fits a child and a woman equally well.
I'll throw in a couple of other mn possibilities:
Elise?
Cerys - which I think means gift, which is quite nice...

marshmallowpies · 05/01/2015 10:11

Funnily enough I was having another think about mns this morning and Cerys popped into my head! My family is Welsh and I'd love to use a Welsh name but all the ones I've suggested DH vetoed - but I know he likes Cerys.

Mind you Claudia Frances Cerys spells out CFC which means nasty polluting chemicals if you grew up in the 80s.

Don't know but LOVE the name Claudia!

LeoandBoosmum · 05/01/2015 21:37

I wouldn't be worried about that, marshmallowpies, unless....your surname begins with an S ie CFCs Smile
I know what you're saying but tt wouldn't stop me, it's not like her name initials are spelling out CRAP or something, that would be a bit of a dealbreaker Grin....and, anyway, how often do you refer to someone by all initials only?
I love Claudia Frances Cerys...and how odd you were thinking it this morning! Also those middle names are a refeshing change from May, Mae, Grace etc
Also, glad you're going with Clawdia rather than Cloudier, I love the former but not the latter.
Let us know what you go with in the end Smile

Both DH and I take this stuff seriously as we've both had personal experience - my parents nearly gave me the initials HAG but luckily spotted it and changed one of the names. DH also has a name which has a bit of a joke connotation like 'Teresa Green' - not nasty, just a bit funny, and it never occurred to his parents when choosing the name!

And as we have a very, very common surname we try and steer clear of popular names - things like Eve, Esme, May, etc wouldn't even be on the long list.

I came up with these middle name suggestions:

Claudia Frances Vera
Claudia Frances Viola
Claudia Frances Juno
Claudia Frances Nancy
Claudia Juliet Cleo
Claudia Juliet Mary
Claudia Juliet Vera
Claudia Juliet Frances
Claudia Juliet Nancy
Claudia Katharine Cleo
Claudia Katharine Frances
Claudia Katharine Nina
Claudia Katharine Anne
Claudia Katharine Juno

And DH only likes Claudia Juliet Frances. All the rest vetoed. To be fair, he likes some of the other individual names, just thinks they are too long. he thinks the combination of names we gave Dd1 is too long & thinks she'll hate us every time she has to fill out a form.

On the other hand I think DD2 will feel unfairly cheated if we don't give her an equally interesting combination of names!
