I much prefer Esther. Hester is my mother in law's name.

TheCraicDealer · 28/12/2014 22:57

Love Hester- Kate Winslet's character in Enigma was called Hester and she was very cool. Also love Vesper, but I got shot down here last time I brought that one up.

TheNewStatesman · 29/12/2014 01:53

I....don't like it, I have to say. So similar to fester and hector.
Esther is nice.

GatoNaranja · 29/12/2014 08:36

Gosh I think it's hideous. Of all the lovely sounding names out there would one that sounds like a fork lift truck company?!

Not too keen on Esther either.

GatoNaranja · 29/12/2014 08:37

Sorry - why would one choose one that....

Early, I'm sleep deprived.

eachtigertires · 29/12/2014 17:11

Sounds like a boys name to me. Reminds me of Carl Hester.

NeopreneMermaid · 29/12/2014 17:25

Love it. I know a Hester and she is fabulous and have never met another. Does mean she has to spell it out over the phone all the time though!

If I had another DD, she'd be Hester.

VixxenPlusAllTheOtherReindeers · 29/12/2014 17:48

Hester is awful. I would feel sorry for a little girl named Hester.

mondaymadness · 29/12/2014 18:49

An interesting choice, an understated and underused name. I love it.

Nultersmum · 29/12/2014 19:09

My 9-month-old DD is called Hester, so, obviously, I think it's the best name evah. It does trip people up, though - she's been Esther loads, and forcibly sex-changed to Hector and Heston. The Hester Prynne associations didn't bother me.

EmilyGilmore · 30/12/2014 01:46

I think it's probably the sort of name people say they love but round never actually give to their own child Wink

MamaLazarou · 01/01/2015 10:44

Not the prettiest name in the world but perfectly functional.

SnakeyMcBadass · 01/01/2015 10:48

Not a fan.

RL20 · 01/01/2015 11:28

Personally not a fan but giving a name is such a personal thing. Sort of reminds me of Heston Blumenthall (is that his name? The celebrity chef) or a Nest, or even Hector? Not my favourite name sorry x

RL20 · 01/01/2015 11:29

And how were you going to put with Tilly? Is it a middle name or a double barrel first name? Or surname? I like Tilly, can be short for Matilda although I know a Tilly who is literally just "Tilly" x

olivehater · 02/01/2015 10:48

Nice but I honestly thought it was a boys name.

Choccyhobnob · 02/01/2015 12:08

I don't like it unfortunately; it reminds me of Hester Mofet from silence of the lambs (I know there wasn't an actual character called that it still springs to mind!) or a frumpy spinster. I wouldn't like to be called Hester Sad
