Boys Names...... Am I mad??

For years in my head I've had this boys name and always thought the first child I had if a boy I would call him this name. But now I am pregnant I am having a total wobble. Not sure if baby is a boy or girl, but any advice would be greatly received.

Could you give me your opinions on the following names (and any other suggestions you think I might like would be great received!) I have a really unusual name and I am undecided as to whether I should give my children unusual name or fairly popular name, as there are pros and cons to both.

My list VERY short list (hence my desperation for help!)

  • Edward (Nickname Teddy)
  • Noah
  • Caspar (New addition this week, maybe too friendly ghost?!)

Thanks.

I love Caspar! It would definitely be my no.1 choice for a boy if it wasn't for the fact it really doesn't work with my surname. So use Caspar on my behalf! :)

Edward and Noah are nice - not so keen on Caspar.

How about Cosmo?

acharmofgoldfinches · 23/12/2014 12:16

Caspar is lovely - somewhere between unusual and un-remarkable. I wouldn't worry about the ghost, that's something we know about, and my DSC (now teenagers) remember, but it's not something I think the next generation will know much about. And even if they did he is a LOVELY ghost, there are far worse things to share a name with!

I also have a name I always thought I'd want for our first child, but now that child is a reality rather than an idea, I have added others to the list just like you have. We will see what fits when he/she arrives Smile

Pls don't go with Edward teddy it's so over done at the moment I at least 5 it's becoming the new Oliver.

Go with Noah or Casper

furcoatbigknickers · 23/12/2014 21:55

Like them all but Teddy very popular.

rockinrobintweet · 23/12/2014 22:15

if you like Teddy (when older Ted) have you considered Theodor? i have a friend who is Ted and that's his full name.

i am not keen on Noah or Caspar as they're very common where i live. as for you saying they're not THE ones.. that feeling never happened to me. i argued for a particular name once dd was born (we hadn't found out sex and were convinced was a boy who we'd call Joel) and couldn't decide on a name. i had a few i liked but after weeks i let DH name her. i like her name now, but it doesn't give me goosebumps.. just she does that!!

these are boys names i like:
Joel
Frederick
Alexander
Isaac
Bradley
Finley
Timothy
Reginald

Edward and Noah are lovely

Casper is okay, nice enough. What about jasper also?

Byron I'm less keen on, my first thought is burger!

corgiology · 31/12/2014 23:23

I would go with Casper Noah. Thus you get the Noah but it's a second name so doesn't matter about popularity :)

NinjaLeprechaun · 01/01/2015 00:33

Byron was James Dean's middle name.

I prefer Ned to Ted as a nickname for Edward. Noah is either 1 or 2 in the US, if that's a consideration. I know there are people here who would rather cut off a limb that be seen using an 'American' name.

RL20 · 01/01/2015 11:37

I'm not a fan of real traditional names but I do like the nicknames of them (my favorite at the minute is Freddie). From your list I like Teddy (but not Edward, just my preference with traditional names!). Noah I have never been a fan of, not entirely sure why, just a bit too biblical for me. I know a little "Kasper" and although it suits him, I haven't really seen it catch on with anyone else. Again, not one of my favourite names but I'm having the same struggle too! What about Theo? Can be a short for a few different more traditional names x

I have an 8 year old Byron Grin Apart from that my favourite would be Caspar. I agree the others are very very popular / ordinary. What about Caspian?
