Shortenings for Cordelia...?

...that aren't Cordy, Delia or Dilly? My sister is due in February and is considering this name. She is put off by the obvious nicknames which are not ideal. I love the full name, so any suggestions for shortened versions you have I can give her would be great!

Del? Cory?

Belazu84 · 07/12/2014 18:22

Cora would be beautiful. And I know one who goes by Dee.

ZenNudist · 07/12/2014 18:24

Dee dee?

beebeebumble · 07/12/2014 18:24

Cora is lovely!

Lia? Elly? I have to say the only one I know is generally known as "cords" though. Delia is the most natural and nothing especially wrong with it imo (that said I wouldn't choose Cordelia anyway so clearly have different criteria from your dsis)

beebeebumble · 07/12/2014 18:25

Cora is very pretty

I first thought of Della.

elpth · 07/12/2014 18:40

I taught a Cordelia who was always known as Coco.

moxon · 07/12/2014 18:42

Cora, Li, Lia.
Or she could just be Cordelia. It's a great name, and not every name needs to be shortened.

Jux · 07/12/2014 18:50

We have a Cordelia in the family (second cousin). She is known as Lally. When I first heard it I was a little ?? but within a month or so, I was so completely used to it. She is 15 now.

FamiliesShareGerms · 07/12/2014 18:53

I think you could make up almost any NN and use it with Cordelia

Lia
Lily
Elli
Ceecee
Deedee
Coco
Della
Etc

burgatroyd · 07/12/2014 20:18

Della or Coco are my fave

TallulahTwinkletoes · 07/12/2014 20:21

My family member is Cordelia. She's known as deeya (only way I can think of to spell it) as this is what she referred to herself as when she started talking.

Cora is a great suggestion Grin

BlackberryandNettle · 07/12/2014 21:05

Cora or Celia jump out, or Cody

Cranagh · 07/12/2014 21:46

Delie

shoobidoo · 08/12/2014 08:35

I don't think Cordelia needs to be shortened. It's beautiful and easily said!

JakeyBurd · 08/12/2014 09:11

I think it's one of those names which has so many short options that one will emerge as the obvious choice as the child grows into the name. It may, like Coco, be something you'd never think of in advance!

If your DSis likes the full name then she should go for it, and let the short names come naturally.

Floppypotato · 08/12/2014 09:13

A girl I went to school with was called Cordelia and she used "Cordy"

It suited her very well :)

Lovely name

zaracharlotte · 08/12/2014 09:15

Cordelia from Buffy was Cordy. I quite like it.

birchwoods · 08/12/2014 13:38

Della.

Leeds2 · 08/12/2014 15:37

The one I know is called Cords by her school friends.

RonaldMcDonald · 08/12/2014 15:48

Both I know are Cordy

bluewisteria · 09/12/2014 19:26

Celia? Although a different etymology. Rory?

BeginnerSAHM · 09/12/2014 19:55

I know a 'Cory'. Really like the name (Cordelia and Cory).

NapoleonsNose · 09/12/2014 20:01

DD had a friend at school called Cordelia shortened to Dee which I thought was pretty.
