I know an adult 'Nip'. Don't have a clue what her full name is. I should probably find out. Nobody's ever referred to her with the negative meaning pp noted for 'Nippy'. I think nn have a tendency to sometimes be odd, but as it is normally only used within the family (not counting shortenings like Lizzy etc) it doesnt really matter.

Come to think of it, she might even be 'Nib' and not 'Nip'. Colleague from work but in different department so don't know her that well. I've always said Nip though.

Juniper was my number one girl's name for ages (had dd in July), I think it's a great name, really fresh. I was inspired by that song 'Jennifer Juniper'. I felt uneasy about it though, I got some very negative reactions from people when I tested it out, and in the end concluded it was too hippy. I didn't want people rolling their eyes and making assumptions about what kind of people we were. Ended up going with 'Willa'.

Looks like I just need to decide exactly how hippy I'm prepared to be with this then... I'll run it past DP and see what he thinks. I have another name that's a bit less out there to ask him about, so if I say this one first and he laughs then at least maybe he'll go for the other one more as it will seem very boring after Juniper. Thanks for the help, I do not know how I'd do this without the MN panel of sanity on hand!

If you want a more "out there" name to suggest before Juniper, how about Ginevra - the Italian version of Guinevere? And then sitting between that and the more sensible option, Juniper will be just perfect

...... tell him that you recall him mentioning how much he liked 'Juniper' ages and ages ago and now that you have had time to digest the name you have decided you like it too.

Unfortunately the bastard he hasn't actually come up with any girl's names yet, so the only way he would have said he liked Juniper was back when we were choosing names for our computer game characters, which will make him think he must have liked it as a name for an orc.

Juniper, with Juni as a nickname - I love it.
