I have fallen in love with this name. What do others think? Seems to be both feminine and boyish and elegant but simple.

I know one!!! She's lovely, (slightly potty but in the nicest way) but I don't like the sound of the name in an English accent, sadly.

Mutteroo · 01/12/2014 01:52

I've only ever met one & that was at a mother and baby group when my DD was little. Found myself quite envious of her mother's bravery in choosing the name as I couldn't bring myself to even suggest it to DH. He would have vetoed it anyway so I say GO FOR IT OP!

Sorry but any of the Sid/Cyd names make me think of the taste of kidneys. Yuk.

Lovely although I asked a teenage Sydney about her name and she hated it x

hideandsqueak · 02/12/2014 15:21

I love it. It makes me think of Colette.

squoosh · 02/12/2014 15:40

Reminds me of a character called Sido/Sidonie from The Red Necklace, great book. I'm afraid you'd need a French accent to pull it off though.

Colette is awful. Like Bernadette it's very common in Ireland among 50/60 something women. Very 'Brenda' in style.

Stars66 · 02/12/2014 15:43

For a boy or girl? Actually, I don't like it for either, sorry!!

LikeSilver · 02/12/2014 15:48

The only Sidonie I've ever met was my midwife for DD's delivery. I erm, don't like it as she was fecking useless.Sorry OP!

florascotia · 02/12/2014 16:03

I think previous poster meant the writer Colette - her given name was (I think) Sidonie-Gabrielle.

squoosh · 02/12/2014 16:38

Oh I see!

florascotia · 02/12/2014 16:48

Squoosh - Colette and Bernardette are not my favourite names, either. (No offence to any Mumsnetters....)

Sidonie-Gabrielle - even with a charming French accent - must have been an awful mouthful!

squoosh · 02/12/2014 16:53

Maybe that's why she named one of her heroines the altogether easier to pronounce Claudine!

florascotia · 02/12/2014 17:18
