A welsh girls name, in England

We are considering the girls name Seren, meaning in Welsh, star.
I am welsh and we live close to wales, our surname is Jones so we can afford to be a bit different.
We are thinking about middle names and would love some advice on what flows nicely.
We are thinking
Ava, Martha, Ruby, Esme, Florence, although not convinced any of them go.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I like names that have a vintage feel.

Seren is a very pretty name but it's almost top 100 ( no. 109 in England and Wales 2013: www.ons.gov.uk/ons/publications/re-reference-tables.html?edition=tcm%3A77-318125)

Probably this does not matter, but if you are very keen to have a name that is 'a bit different' ...

elinorjane · 30/11/2014 10:41

It's top ten in Wales, as far as I know. Plenty of Seren Joneses.

Sophronia · 30/11/2014 14:08

From your list I like Seren Martha the best.

Our DD has a welsh name, our shortlist was:

Bronwen
Seren
Meredith
Angharad

We really liked Seren but worried it has become the welsh 'Amelie' - as in being used by lots o people who actually have no connection to the heritage of the name.

like you we have a short surname so wanted a longer first name to balance it out.

squoosh · 10/12/2014 14:50

Seren is nice but I don't think it's 'different' anymore so don't worry about that.

SunnyBaudelaire · 10/12/2014 14:51

Seren is really not different at all, pretty mainstream tbh

Alisvolatpropiis · 11/12/2014 17:48

Seren is the new Megan in terms of popularity.

Ffion
Eirlys
Nia

Are uncommon amongst little ones at the moment. Though there are plenty of Nia's in their 20's

We were going to use Seren for DD2 only DD2 is actually going to be DS1! I tried a variety of middle names and none really suited our 2 syllable surname. Only middle name I felt worked was Joy. Not sure if that would work with Jones but an alternative short snappy name might.

Seren is beautiful but very popular. I have a Celyn (Pronounced kell-in, Welsh for 'holly') which isn't too popular at the moment but a similar style.

Alisvolatpropiis · 11/12/2014 20:13

Celyn is lovely, Moomin
