Just means "king" to my ears.

DertieBertie · 26/11/2014 11:58

It's a dog's name unless worn by an elderly chap. I know a few old men who go by Rex and for some reason it seems to really suit!

I have a two year old Rex and we generally get good reactions. Any negative comments have come from adults; all (seriously, all) children comment that it is a really cool name. Especially teenage boys. And if you ask them about the dog thing then they look at you blankly.

And we have only ever received one dinosaur related item!

I only know of one. It's ok but I'm not that keen.

I don't inherently think of it as a dog's name but, in the same class as this Rex, I also had 2 X Felix and a Kitty. All perfectly fine as standalone names. But in combination I felt more like I was working in a pet shop than a school!

I have a nephew Rex; like it a lot.

I have never come across a dog called Rex.

Wilf83 · 28/11/2014 01:46

My dad's dog was called Rex & out neighbour's dog was called it too.

Pelicangiraffe · 30/11/2014 09:13

I adore the name Rex

MyDogSnoopy · 30/11/2014 18:47

It's a dogs name, on par with calling your son Fido.

Alisvolatpropiis · 30/11/2014 18:48

I've never met a dog called Fido. Or Rex.

Most dogs these days are Toby,Charlie,Max, Barney etc

fishfingerSarnies · 30/11/2014 18:49

Like it. Dh hates it otherwise it would be a strong contender for my ds.

MyDogSnoopy · 30/11/2014 18:53

My bf's dog is called Fido.

WomanScorned · 30/11/2014 18:59

DS2's name has a certain connection to my/my parent's generation, but no-one under 40 bats an eyelid. My teen and his mates just gave me that blank look when I tried it out on them. I'd put Rex in the same category. I think It's a great name. I think of medieval kings, before dogs.
