Front runners for girl/boy respectively.

Finally asking for opinions on names and I'm actually pregnant Grin

Aur-AY-lia or Aur-EE-lia?

emotionsecho · 02/11/2014 11:15

Love Aurelia, not keen on Torin.

emotionsecho · 02/11/2014 11:16

Oh and congratulations. Smile

Fedupofplaystation · 02/11/2014 11:19

I love them both and really wanted Aurelia (nn Rory) for DD.

DH however hated it and a lot of people said it made them think of areola.

Some other slightly unusual ones that I liked, but DH didn't:

Ariadne
Persephone
Cordelia

Torin is very cute.

Oriunda · 02/11/2014 12:05

Fedup, we have similar taste in names! DS would have been Persephone/Ophelia/Aurelia in that order (but think DH would have wanted Aurelia) if he'd been a girl.

I like both names OP.

Theas18 · 02/11/2014 12:08

Grand!

MollyBdenum · 02/11/2014 12:09

I like them.

AlpacaYourThings · 02/11/2014 12:11

Aurelia when written down reminds me of Areola.

Torin is lovely.

OttiliaVonBCup · 02/11/2014 12:12

Wasn't Torin one of the dwarves in The Hobbit?
Too Tolkien-y.

saintsandpoets · 02/11/2014 12:13

Love Torin! Would use it myself, if we didn't already have an immediate family member with the same surname that rhymes!

GreenKay · 02/11/2014 12:31

Aurelia was on our short list but we had a boy! I love the name, but when we told people what our choice for a girl was they really struggled with pronunciation which was quite a shock to me as I don't think it's difficult! Not keen on Torin although there is nothing offensive or awful about it.

Alisvolatpropiis · 02/11/2014 13:47

It wasn't Torin in Lord of the Rings but thinking about it there is a dwarf with a similar name. Hmm.

My DH is less keen on both than I am. I'm more willing to negotiate with the boys names than I am the girls.

I'd say Aur-ee-lia but am aware it's one of those names with varying pronouciations without any actually being wrong. Think Aur-ay-lia is more common in Europe?

Fedup

Love Persephone and Cordelia! DH has strongly vetoed Persephone however.

Sorry, it's Thorin not Torin.

Very close though.

penguinthermometer · 02/11/2014 14:00

Really really like both, esp Aurelia (though I might not be quite brave enough to use it myself - partly because I actually prefer the French version Aurelie (sorry phone doesn't do accents) and I think I might not quite get away with that, not being French and having an atrocious French accent :))

Have you thought about:
Aurelien/Aurelian (boy)
Corin
Taliesin

Corinna
Leonie
Aline
Cordelia
Cecilia

Alisvolatpropiis · 02/11/2014 14:00

It is Ottilia.

Perhaps need to have a think about the boys name a bit more!

fionadal · 02/11/2014 14:07

Love Torin. Also love Corin. Considering both for DS2.

Aurelia not to my taste - too frilly and I tend to like one/two- syllable names.

Alisvolatpropiis · 02/11/2014 14:08

Ooh I like Corin, Penguin!

I like Aurelien/Aurelius but I am definitely not brave enough.

Clawdy · 02/11/2014 22:18

Aurelia for me will always be the Spanish/Portugese girl who ends up with Colin Firth in Love Actually!

moxon · 03/11/2014 07:09

Aurelia is always great. Torin is absolutely fine but I'm not a fan personally. Smile

Cherrypi · 03/11/2014 07:21

Love both. Hope you can convince your dh.

Stealthpolarbear · 03/11/2014 07:23

Congratulations :o

AWombWithoutAFoof · 03/11/2014 13:25

I like Torin. To me Aurelia is a disconcerting mix of oral and areola.

If you like Cordelia do you like Coralie? Or Camilla? Cressida?

Theherbofdeath · 03/11/2014 13:26

Horrible.

BlueStarsAtNight · 03/11/2014 14:17

I really don't like either I'm afraid, both a bit try-hard.

I have never heard Aurelia pronounced Or-ee-lia, only ever Or-ay-lia, so the unusual pronunciation would put me off even more.

Cordelia is ok but I can't hear it without Buffy.
