We're keeping it a secret from everyone in real life so I'm sharing it here instead.

It's Marceline. Marcie for short. After a French relation with a similar name, who died when I was small.

(Also slightly inspired by Marceline the Vampire Queen. She'll love that during her teenage goth years.)

Just found out yesterday that she's a girl, so excited!

Love it, beautiful name. Congratulations.

There is an American YA novel called Space Station Seventh Grade. It has a character named Marceline and she's wonderful...clever, funny, not swayed by peer pressure. That's what I think of when I hear it!

Congratulations! :)

PancakesAndMapleSyrup · 07/10/2014 09:59

Its lovley and different, so she will likley be the only one! Congrats!

squoosh · 07/10/2014 10:28

Marcie is sweet, very 1950's Americana.

squoosh · 07/10/2014 10:35

And wasn't there a Marcie in Charlie Brown, Peppermint Patty used to boss her around.

Love a bit of Charlie Brown.

Thank you all! We love "old" but also unusual names and feel like this one fits the bill.

cheerful that sounds like a great character! My French relation was also a very strong woman, a good heart but her opinions were heard and I want that confidence for my daughter too. It's hard out there for a girl!

We have a 14 month old boy who will be delighted with a sister. The next 20 weeks can't come quick enough!

Congratulations Flowers

Marcie is a sweet, and both familiar and unusual at the same time.

How do you pronounce Marceline? Is it Marcel-line or Marcel-leen or something else? I've never heard it before but quite like how it looks written down.

SourSweets · 07/10/2014 14:28

Thanks!

Mar-cel-eene. There are lots of variations too.

DramaAlpaca · 07/10/2014 22:40

Beautiful name. Congrats, OP Flowers

Hm, I'm not sure if I actually like the name Marceline, but it's an unusual name and Marcie is a very nice nn, so I think I'd like it if I met her :)

SourSweets · 08/10/2014 04:49

squeak it's good that not everyone likes it, we want it to stay unpopular and infrequently used!

Day 2 and we still love it, so that's a good sign! Thank you for all the lovely comments :)

I know three adult Marcelines in Ireland so maybe its popularity is regional and generational.

SourSweets · 08/10/2014 12:41

That's interesting! I dont know a single Marceline, of any age.
